Father Brown arrives on ABC tonight as Lady Felicia hosts a group of writers at Montague. She hopes they will help shape her novel, Moonstruck in Moscow. However, the group offers little encouragement.
Romance author Eva Velasquez attends. Crime writer Frances Whitfield joins her. Gothic novelist Maxine Mortimer also takes part. Then publisher Sherman Quinn arrives early with his assistant, Laurel Rush. His presence adds pressure to the retreat.
Soon, a murder interrupts the weekend. Father Brown investigates the writers’ gathering with Mrs Devine and Brenda. Each guest has a reason to guard their reputation. Therefore, the detective must untangle literary rivalries as well as the crime.
Lady Felicia’s plan gives the episode its setting. Her guests bring different styles and different ambitions. Meanwhile, the publisher’s visit raises the stakes for everyone at Montague. The case combines a country-house mystery with the programme’s familiar warmth and wit.
The new episode continues Father Brown’s Saturday-night run on ABC. Viewers can expect a close-knit group, a tense mystery and the detective’s careful eye for detail.
Father Brown airs Saturday 19 September at 8.20pm on ABC and ABC iview.
