Separated at Birth premieres on ABC TV and ABC iview in November – Nazeem Hussain and Urzila Carlson lead the new six-part comedy, which begins on Wednesday 11 November 2026 at 8.30pm on ABC TV. All six episodes will also be available to stream on ABC iview.
The release gives viewers both a weekly television premiere and a full-season streaming option. It also makes this a distinctly Melbourne story: the series places family, parenting and friendship within the city’s multicultural communities. A divorce moments after a birth
Hussain plays Sameer, a paramedic whose wife asks for a divorce moments after the birth of their first child. He suddenly has to navigate co-parenting, his family’s expectations and his own fears about fatherhood. At work, he can respond to an emergency; at home, he has much less control.
Carlson plays Donna, Sameer’s sharp-tongued best friend and fellow paramedic. When her dream home renovation turns into a disaster, she moves in with him. Their arrangement gives Sameer support, but it also forces Donna to reconsider her fiercely independent approach to life. Two opinionated, feuding extended families watch and weigh in as the pair handle their overlapping personal crises.
Who else is in Separated at Birth?
The ensemble also includes Sana’a Shaik, Nadie Kammallaweera, Leah Vandenberg, Jeeves Verma, Akhilesh Jain, Osamah Sami and Rodney Afif. Guest performers are Tom Sainsbury, Melanie Bracewell, Luke McGregor, Ryan Shelton, Bron Lewis, Sarah Michaels and Takashi Wakasugi.
Hussain created the series and wrote for it as well as starring. Sarah Lang, Sara Pascoe and Matt Okine are the other credited writers. Nina Buxton directs, while Pennie Brown and Lisa Wang produce. Laura Waters, Emma Fitzsimons and Chris Loveall are executive producers; Todd Abbott and Rachel Okine serve as ABC executive producers.
Princess Pictures produced Separated at Birth for the ABC. The broadcaster and Screen Australia supplied major production investment, with VicScreen also associated with the production. ABC Commercial handles worldwide distribution.
