JOHANNA – KYLIE KWONG & THE KITCHEN GARDEN PROGRAM
Kids learn all sorts of fundamental life skills at school…but what about healthy eating habits? This week, Johanna’s meeting up with two of Australia’s biggest celebrity chefs, Stephanie Alexander and Kylie Kwong, to find out about an amazing program that’s teaching kids to grow, harvest and prepare fresh and affordable food. Participants at the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program swap pens and paper for seeds, shovels and dirt. It’s a great way to get kids excited about fresh produce and Johanna’s going back to school to learn more.

DR HARRY – HILLS WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
For animal advocate Ben Dessen, helping to rescue and rehabilitate injured and surrendered Aussie native animals is way more than a job…it’s his life’s work. Over the past decade Ben, alongside his family and a dedicated team of volunteers, has been working tirelessly to establish a wildlife sanctuary in northern Sydney. Called the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, it’s still very much a work in progress, but Ben and the team have already constructed a new wombat rehab enclosure, aviaries for birds and habitats for reptiles. They’ve also created a facility for a very friendly emu named Moo! Dr Harry’s taking a tour and finding out more about Ben’s ultimate dream: to build a wildlife hospital.
ADAM – GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL HOUSE
We share many amazing homes on Better Homes and Gardens…but what could be more amazing than a home that is literally changing kids’ lives? Each year, tradies from across Victoria come together to volunteer their time and skills to the Good Friday Appeal, building a new home from the ground up – and all without charging a cent. The finished home will be auctioned off, with the money raised going towards the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. This year’s house is full of modern architectural details and Adam’s stopping by to check it out and to meet a boy with a very special connection to the charity.
COLIN – WHAT’S IN BOTTOM OF THE FRIDGE PASTA
Think you’ve got nothing in the fridge for dinner? Have another look, because there might be a pasta sauce hidden in there somewhere! Colin’s making a delicious green pasta sauce with broccolini, Swiss chard, baby spinach and loads of herbs…but really, whatever green veggies you have wilting in the bottom of your fridge will work well. With goat’s cheese, lemon and parmesan to make this meal super creamy and indulgent, this pasta will give your forgotten greens a new lease on life.
JULIET – DON’T WASTE, CREATE! EASTER CRAFTS FROM THE RECYCLE BIN
With money a bit tight for many of us this year, spending a lot on Easter gifts and decorations just isn’t on the cards…but why buy when you can make them yourself? Juliet’s sharing some fun Easter crafts that are made using something you already have on hand: the humble egg carton! From gorgeous cards to cute carrot bunting, you’ll be amazed what you can make with the contents of your recycling bin. And these ideas will keep the kids occupied during the school holidays, too.
