JOHANNA – ANNIE SMITHERS AT HOME IN BABBINGTON PARK
Johanna’s meeting up with one of the country’s most renowned chefs and a true champion of seasonal, fresh local produce, Annie Smithers. Annie and her wife, Susan, live in bucolic bliss in regional Victoria, where they grow all their own veggies and keep lots of animals. Named Babbington Park, their stunning property also houses an orchard, a chapel and a flower garden. And just 10-minutes down the road, you’ll find Annie’s award-winning French farmhouse-style restaurant, du Fermier. Johanna’s visiting to find out all about life at Babbington Park and to cook up a recipe with some farm-fresh produce.
DR HARRY – DAISY THE COCKATOO
This week, Dr Harry’s meeting Daisy, a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo whose celebrating his 40th birthday this year. That’s right…Daisy is a he! And he’s very special to owners, Sue and Lauren. A few years ago, Sue sadly lost her husband, Bernie, the family member Daisy was closest to. Since then, Daisy has become very attached to Sue and shrieks whenever she answers the phone or tries to leave the room. Can Dr Harry convince Daisy to quieten down?
COLIN – CHARRED LETTUCE, CHICKEN, PEAS & BACON
Lettuce is the foundation of most salads…but did you know you can cook with it, too? Colin’s in the OzHarvest garden cooking up a dish that’s a perfect way to use up the wilting lettuce in the back of your fridge. Paired with chicken, bacon, thyme, lemon and parmesan, this grilled cos lettuce tastes absolutely delicious…you’ll want to add it to everything!
CLARISSA – MUM’S SINGAPORE NOODLES
Singapore noodles are a take-away favourite for a reason and, tonight, Clarissa’s showing you how to recreate this classic dish at home. With pork fillet soaked in a yummy marinade, plus shitake mushrooms, prawns and eggs, this version is so much better for you than the restaurant version and it tastes yummier too.
ADAM + CHARLIE – MAKING LIFE EASIER
Whether it’s because of age or injury, losing mobility can really impact on your everyday life. Adam and Charlie are teaming up to share some simple ways to make life a little bit easier if mobility is an issue. They’re helping Peter, an 85-year-old who lives with and cares for his disabled son, Rob. Peter’s knees aren’t what they used to be, which makes simple things – like moving around his house – really difficult. So Adam and Charlie are installing an assistance rail and ramp to help out. And because Peter is passionate about gardening, they’ll also be installing some raised garden beds so he can spend more time doing what he loves.
CHARLIE – MAKE YOUR GARDEN PERENNIAL (RED COW FARM)
Perennial-focused cottage gardens are currently having a moment in the gardening world. And although this romantic style of garden may look like it’s just sprung up naturally, they actually require lots of prep and planning to get right. Charlie’s heading to Red Cow Farm in NSW’s Southern Highlands to check out a first-class perennial-style garden and to share his top tips for recreating the look at your place.
MELISSA – SHE’S AS GOOD AS NEW SHED
Melissa’s giving a typical old and rusty Aussie shed a style upgrade. With a few coats of paint, a new window and window box, plus a refresh of the surrounding garden beds, this shed will look pretty as a picture. Along the way, Melissa’s sharing plenty of tips to breathe life into the shed at your place.
