Better Homes and Gardens on Channel 7 and 7plus S30E29 – storyline rundown for episode 29, 2024, screening at 7.00pm on Friday 16 August on 7 and 7plus.

JOHANNA – SALLY RIPPIN READING WITH KIDS

It’s almost book week, which means if you’re a kid it’s a great time to pick up a book, but if you’re Joh Griggs it’s a great time to meet best-selling children’s author, Sally Rippin. Sally is Australia’s highest-selling female author having published over 100 books for children and young adults. But it’s her Billie B Brown series she’s best known for, having sold over five million copies alone. Sally is also currently Australia’s Children’s Laureate, a role which sees her travelling the country promoting the transformational power of reading, creativity and storytelling. At a local primary school, Joh and Sally meet a classroom of fans who have some fun making up characters to their own stories.

ADAM – BENCH THE KIDS & GET THEM READING

Getting kids to read not only benefits their ability to learn but helps expand their imaginations. Adam can’t help you get them into reading, but he can help by building somewhere for them to read. He’s making a reading seat to give them their own private space to plonk down and get carried away with their favourite adventures. And with plenty of storage to collect their favourite books, this project may just encourage them to read more.

CLARISSA – TAMARIND FISH CURRY

So far this year Clarissa has introduced us to many classic Malaysian dishes and this week is no different. She’s cooking a Tamarind fish curry, that’s light on spice, but packs a lot of flavour. With her family playing a big role in her cooking journey, it’s fitting that this recipe was passed down to her by her grandmother. A good curry starts with a good curry paste, so Clarissa will show you how to make a sweet and sour flavoured paste that will give you an authentic taste of Malaysia.

Colin Fassnidge
COLIN – PEA AND HAM SOUP

To Colin, a pea and ham hock soup is the most beautiful and best soup in the world. He hasn’t steered us wrong yet, so you can be sure it’s delicious. The ham is slowly boiled, so by the time it’s done, the meat will fall off the bone and your home will smell delicious. Colin elevates his recipe by adding a few dollops of a crème fresh and mint mix and serves it with a homemade grilled garlic bread for the perfect combo.

GRAHAM – CERES HOMESTEAD

From the moment you enter Ceres Homestead you are transported to a bygone era.
A country estate built in 1864, the property is a snapshot in time represented by historical buildings and architecture, surrounded by a sympathetically redesigned remnant garden. Graham takes us on a journey through the beautiful and formal English hedged garden surrounded by specimen trees, English and French inspired treescapes with elements of Australian history, age and a timeless beauty. Inside, the home has been lovingly restored with many original elements still in place, including a gift from Queen Victoria. For over 150 years, Ceres has captivated all those who have lived there and now it is open to the public, it might just captivate you too.

CHARLIE – EVOLVING BACKYARD: STAGE THREE

After transforming a plain and boring garden over two stages, with the budget going up each time, Charlie has reached the climax of this evolving backyard. The budget is going up again, but that means he gets to go all out, transforming the back portion of the garden into an outdoor entertaining area. And of course, being Charlie there are more plants going in around the edges. Making use of the family’s existing firepit, the entertaining area gives the garden some focus and the perfect place to sit and chat with friends on a cool winter’s night.

Juliet Love
JULIET – THE ULTIMATE SLUMBER PARTY

With snacks, drinks, decorations and maybe even mini indoor tents if you go all out, sleepover parties are really popular, for good reason. But this can get expensive. Juliet is going to show you how to create a budget version without scrimping on the fun and frivolity. She will make a low sugar version of cupcakes (being a diabetic and a nutritionist this is front of mind) and some other themed party foods. Then it’s time to make the party table and set up the cutest sleepover space with mini tents and blow-up beds ready for nighttime fun in PJ’s with dancing, party food and swapping cards. This really will be the ultimate slumber party; fabulous, fun and fuss free.

DR HARRY – BOUNCING BUNNIES

If you think rabbits are cute and marvel at dog agility or show jumping, then Dr Harry has a treat for you. Welcome to the world of competitive Bunny Hopping. From Mini Lops to Netherland Dwarves and Rex’s, if your bunny can jump, then you can compete. Like show jumping, the rabbits navigate a course of jumps of varying sizes. Hitting a jump causes a fault, but it’s all in good fun and competition isn’t exactly cut-throat. Check it out, because, as Dr Harry discovers, it’s a hare raising experience.
