The Cat in the Hat trailer debuts Hilary Duff’s CATastrophe – Warner Bros. Pictures has released a new Australian trailer for its animated The Cat in the Hat film, introducing Hilary Duff’s new song ‘CATastrophe’ to the Cat’s latest big-screen adventure. The film opens in Australian cinemas on 31 December 2026.
For local audiences, the date is an important distinction: the new footage is promoting an end-of-year Australian cinema release. This is the Cat’s first animated theatrical feature, with Bill Hader providing the voice of Dr. Seuss’s famously mischievous character.

The trailer pairs the Cat’s escalating antics with Duff’s new song. Its promise of action, drama and even a potato on a string gives the marketing a playful way to introduce a story about two children adjusting to an unfamiliar home.
A difficult assignment for the Cat
In the film, the Cat works for the I.I.I.I. — the Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration, LLC. His assignment is to cheer Gabby and Sebastian, siblings struggling with their family’s move to a new town. But he has a habit of taking things too far. If this attempt goes wrong, he could lose his magical hat.
That premise gives the Cat’s mayhem a purpose beyond the spectacle. The siblings need help finding their feet, while the Cat needs to show that his imagination can actually make a difference. The new trailer offers a glimpse of the strange world and characters they encounter together.
Voice cast and creative team
Hader leads a voice cast that includes Xochitl Gomez, Matt Berry, Quinta Brunson and Paula Pell. Tiago Martinez, Giancarlo Esposito, America Ferrera, Bowen Yang and Tituss Burgess also feature.
Alessandro Carloni and Erica Rivinoja direct the film. It is Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s first full-length feature, with Warner Bros. Pictures handling worldwide distribution. Australian publicity for the release comes through Universal Pictures Australia on behalf of Warner Bros.
