The Tenzing trailer gives Australian audiences a new view of a defining Himalayan story. Peedom tells it through Tenzing’s cultural perspective.
Tenzing trailer: cast and story
Genden Phuntsok stars as Tenzing. Tom Hiddleston plays Edmund Hillary. Willem Dafoe plays expedition leader Colonel John Hunt.
Caitríona Balfe plays Jill Henderson. Thinley Lhamo and Tenzin Dalha also feature.
The story begins in 1952. Tenzing joins a Swiss expedition after his community leaves its mountain homeland.
He wants to climb Chomolungma, a mountain sacred to his people. However, he clashes with the determined New Zealander Hillary. Rival teams are also competing to make history.
The expedition also changes Tenzing’s life beyond the climb. The film follows the impact of the journey on his family and community. It places his ambitions alongside the power imbalance between the Sherpa climber and the expedition members who rely on his knowledge.
The trailer introduces the scale of the mountain and the human stakes behind the historic ascent. It also sets up the tension between Tenzing and Hillary as their partnership develops under intense pressure.
