Not Alone: Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez Lead Illumination’s New Original Animated Film – Universal Pictures has released the teaser trailer for Not Alone, the new original animated film from Illumination.
The film stars Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez in a story about connection, romance, invention and three tiny aliens looking for a way home.
Not Alone marks Chalamet’s first feature-length animated film. He voices Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic who lives a quiet life alone.
Selena Gomez co-stars as Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist who is developing the world’s first plant-fuelled rocket. When Joe and Fran come together to prepare for the rocket’s first launch, sparks begin to fly. However, neither of them is especially confident when it comes to romance.
Their lives become even more complicated when three aliens take refuge in Joe’s home. Dunk, Welly and Shirm are tiny, chaotic and adorable. They are also on the run from Zandro, a determined but hopelessly inept officer of the law.
The aliens quickly realise that Fran’s rocket may be their best chance of returning home safely. As a result, Joe and Fran’s mission becomes far bigger than either of them expected.
The voice cast also features Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan and Jamie Demetriou as Dunk, Welly and Shirm. Brett Goldstein voices Zandro. Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris also join the supporting voice cast.
For almost 20 years, Illumination has created some of the world’s most recognisable animated characters and franchises. The studio is behind Minions and Despicable Me, as well as Sing, The Secret Life of Pets, Migration and The Super Mario Bros. films.
Now, Illumination turns to an entirely original story with Not Alone.
The film is directed by Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val. Guillon co-directed Despicable Me 3 and has worked across the design of Despicable Me, Minions, The Secret Life of Pets and Sing.
Dodgson’s credits include editing work on The Lorax, Minions, Despicable Me 3 and Minions: The Rise of Gru. Del Val previously co-directed Minions: The Rise of Gru and The Secret Life of Pets 2.
The film is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri. Joy Poirel, Richard Curtis and David Distenfeld serve as executive producers.
Not Alone opens in March 2027 only in cinemas.
