Better Homes and Gardens on Channel 7 – storyline rundown for episode 13, 2024, screening at 7.00pm on Friday 26 April on 7 and 7plus.

JOHANNA + COLIN – EXPLORING ULURU

From any distance Uluru is a sight to behold, but walking around the base is truly awe inspiring. In this the second week of their trip to the red centre, Johanna and Colin get a tour of the world’s most famous rock, learning history, geology and even a bit of zoology.

But this being Better Homes and Gardens, Johanna meets the team behind an extraordinary garden and Colin cooks the most delicious meal using the most local of ingredients, Seared Pepper Berry Kangaroo Strip Loin with Macadamia Crust. From a work of art on a plate to the ones hanging on the wall, Joh discovers a gallery that brings together pieces from all over the region and meets some artists who work with the very earth itself.

ADAM – THAT’S NOT A FLOATING SHELF. THIS IS A FLOATING SHELF

We know Adam’s a great carpenter, but tonight he’s becoming a great magician. He’s creating a pot plant holder made up of two independent pieces of timber held together with a couple of chains and looks like it’s defying gravity. That’s because it’s using a structural principle called Tensegrity. Despite the trickery, this is a really simple build, but more importantly it will absolutely impress your friends and family who will think you’ve made it with magic.

CLARISSA – STIR FRY HOKKIEN NOODLES WITH CHICKEN & PRAWNS

Traditional, delicious and fast, the recipe for any great meal and Clarissa’s Stir Fry Hokkien Noodles with Chicken and Prawns ticks all three boxes. From the chicken seasoning to the vegetables and noodles, Clarissa’s calling on her Malaysian heritage to make an authentically flavoured meal. Clarissa’s tips will take your stir fry to the next level, but the beauty of this dish though is that depending on your family’s tastes, you can easily swap some ingredients to satisfy everyone.

CHARLIE – THE STAGHORN GUY

It’s not cool mounting an actual stag or elk’s head on your wall, but it is cool to mount a staghorn or elkhorn fern. They’re coming back in a big way, so if you’ve ever wanted to grow one but didn’t know how, Charlie has all the info you’ll need as he tours a nursery that specialises in these lovely ferns. But for a pop of colour, some Bromeliads will brighten up any garden. There’s another plant at the nursery though that has captured Charlie’s attention, the uncommon bat plant. Thankfully you don’t need to be living in a cave to grow them!

MELISSA – VEGGIE DELIGHT (MARLENA THE SMART GARDENER)

As a gardener there’s something so satisfying about not only growing your own fruit and vegetables, but also being able to share your results with the wider gardening community. Tonight, Melissa visits a spectacular veggie garden that’s like no other. While it features a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, some of which are unusual and rare, it’s the use of smart applications and incredible beauty are what set this garden apart from the rest. So, if you’re looking to start a veggie patch or just want to make your existing one more productive, join Melissa for some fantastic tips and tricks.

JULIET – SIDE TABLE WITH STYLE

Side tables can be utilitarian, but a good one is like a fashion accessory, adding an element of character to a space. Whether colourful, whimsical, or ornate they help tell the story that this space represents your taste. So, Juliet is going to show you how to build one with minimal tools, but maximum style. Using off the shelf parts, this is a project you can easily achieve this weekend!

DR HARRY – A COUPLE OF BARKING MAD SCHNAUZERS

They might be small in stature, but they’re big on bark. Schnauzers are an increasingly popular breed of dog these days, but this pair is driving their family crazy. From howling when the family’s out to frenzied barking when anyone arrives at the door, or even just walks along the street, it’s become too much. Can Dr Harry quieten this pair down before they drive everyone barking mad?
