Revealed: Building Bad on Stan looks at corruption – A story of collaboration, persistence, impact, and tenacious journalism that sent shockwaves through the Australian building industry, the Stan Original Revealed: Building Bad will premiere August 3, only on Stan.
Produced and directed by Amelia Ballinger, the film follows acclaimed reporters Nick McKenzie, David Marin-Guzman, and Ben Schneiders as they uncover the crime, corruption, and sinister elements at the heart of Australia’s largest construction union – the CFMEU.
Over several years, their insistent investigations exposed for the first time how bikies, underworld figures, and organised crime syndicates infiltrated the building industry – revelations that sent shockwaves through the sector.
Across eighty minutes, Revealed: Building Bad takes audiences inside the meticulous and risky work of deep-dive journalism: from surveillance operations and covert audio recordings to confidential sources and courageous whistleblowers, all brought together to shine a light on dark and deeply embedded corruption.
In November 2024, the Building Bad team won Australian journalism’s highest award – the Gold Walkley – with judges unanimously declaring it ‘an incredible, courageous feat of investigative journalism with huge ramifications’. In March 2025, at the Melbourne Press Club Quill Awards, the team won the Gold Quill and the Grant Hattam Quill award and Nick McKenzie was named journalist of the year.
The original story, featured on 60 Minutes, is nominated for the Best News Coverage or Public Affairs Report at the 2025 TV Week Logie Awards, with winners announced on Sunday August 3. It has also been nominated for Outstanding Investigative Reporting at the 2025 Kennedy Awards.
Revealed: Building Bad is the latest title in Stan’s landmark Revealed documentary slate. Produced and directed by Walkley award-winning journalist Amelia Ballinger, with journalists Nick McKenzie, David Marin-Guzman and Ben Schneiders. Stan Executive Producers are Cailah Scobie and Amanda Duthie.
