MUBI Australia September 2026 highlights – MUBI’s September lineup is led by Garth Jennings’ PULP: What Do You Do For An Encore?, Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague, the exclusive feature Bouchra and a curated collection of Australian filmmaker debuts.

PULP: What Do You Do For An Encore?
Streaming September 25. Garth Jennings’ new film PULP: What Do You Do For An Encore? streams exclusively on MUBI from 25 September 2026.
Narrated by PULP frontman Jarvis Cocker, the film captures the British band during its 2025 tour. It combines live performance footage with four decades of archival material, tracing the band’s journey from Sheffield outsiders to enduring cultural icons.
The film features 20 songs from across PULP’s career. It is framed as a tribute to the band’s social commentary, sharp wit and close connection with its audience.
Nouvelle Vague
Streaming September 18. Richard Linklater turns to Paris in 1959 for Nouvelle Vague, a film about the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s first feature and the movement that changed cinema.

Friends and Strangers
Streaming September 4. James Vaughan’s Australian debut Friends and Strangers joins MUBI from 4 September 2026.
The film follows Ray, a freelance videographer, and Alice, a friend of his recent ex, as they take an awkward camping trip in the New South Wales bush before Alice’s wedding.
Rather than playing as a simple road-trip story, the film looks at estrangement, social rituals, connection and the unease sitting beneath casual Australian encounters. The release describes it as one of the most uniquely Australian films of recent years.
The Messiah
Weekly from September 3. The Messiah is a seven-episode series from Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, also known as Los Javis.
The creators of Veneno and Paquita Salas begin with a provocative idea: what if someone who could be the second coming of Christ appeared in modern Spain?
Across the season, the series uses pop style, queer perspective and social insight to explore faith, public attention, transformation and myth. New episodes stream each week.

Spotlight from September 11. MUBI’s Konrad Wolf spotlight focuses on one of the key figures of East German cinema.
The collection includes I Was Nineteen, Stars, The Divided Heaven and Solo Sunny, which arrived on MUBI in August.
Between Art and Life: Three by Godard
Spotlight from September 4. Streaming alongside Nouvelle Vague, this Godard collection includes Breathless and further titles from the filmmaker’s body of work.
The spotlight places Godard at the centre of modern cinema and frames his films as works that later filmmakers keep escaping from, or returning to.
1970s Erotica
Spotlight from September 25. This collection looks at films that moved erotic cinema into the cultural mainstream during the 1970s.
Titles include 9 Lives of a Wet Pussy, A Woman’s Torment, Devil in Miss Jones, Exposed, Harlot and Group Marriage.
Obscure Objects of Desire: The Films of Luis Bunuel
Spotlight from September 25. MUBI also presents a Luis Bunuel collection focused on the Spanish filmmaker’s late French masterworks.
Titles include Belle de Jour, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, The Phantom of Liberty and That Obscure Object of Desire.
