Heated Rivalry seasons 2 and 3 reportedly filming back-to-back, with a Christmas movie to follow – Heated Rivalry fans may be getting far more than one new season. Two six-episode seasons are being filmed back-to-back, with a standalone holiday film planned afterwards, Deadline reports, citing sources.
However, nothing beyond season two has been officially confirmed. A representative for Canadian streamer Crave, which commissions the series, told Deadline there are “no projects to confirm”.
For Australian viewers, season one streams on HBO Max. Fans can also see all six episodes on the big screen at Madman’s one-day Heated Rivalry cinema marathon on 5 December.
What Deadline is reporting
According to Deadline’s sources, the two seasons are currently shooting together and should wrap at the end of November or early December. A standalone Heated Rivalry film would then shoot in December.
The film is described as a Christmas special or holiday-themed story. Deadline says it is planned for a cinema release in December 2027.
Notably, the film would not centre on Shane and Ilya. Instead, sources say it focuses on Scott (François Arnaud) and Kip (Robbie G.K.), the show’s other season-one couple. Author Rachel Reid has written a short story, Merry Christmas, Scott and Kip!, about the pair’s first Christmas.
What is confirmed about season two
Season two is confirmed for spring 2027 in the Northern Hemisphere, with an April launch likely. Creator Jacob Tierney has said it will run six episodes, like season one.
The new season is expected to continue Shane (Hudson Williams) and Ilya’s (Connor Storrie) story through Rachel Reid’s book The Long Game. It will also introduce Harris Drover and Troy Barrett, played by Justice Smith and Charlie Gillespie.
Emily Hampshire, Brendan Morgan, David Tomlinson and Lauren Chan are among the new cast members announced for the season.
Why the rumours started
Talk of a longer shoot began after recurring guest star Dylan Walsh suggested in a leaked Cameo video that the cast was “doing 12” episodes. Tierney later clarified that season two alone has six episodes. He also said filming would finish by the end of the year, without saying exactly what that covered.
The hockey romance premiered on 28 November 2025 and quickly became a pop-culture hit, turning Williams and Storrie into stars. In the US, season one is now screening in paired episodes at cinemas, with a strong opening weekend reported.
