Messi and the Giants coming to Disney+ in 2027 with first teaser – Lionel Messi’s new animated sports-fantasy series has unveiled its first look, introducing a 12-year-old hero whose football skills may be the key to saving another world. Messi and the Giants is set to stream globally on Disney+ in 2027.
For Australian families, the important detail is the confirmed Disney+ destination: the local announcement does not yet provide an Australian premiere day or month. The first teaser offers a preview now, while the release itself remains a 2027 prospect.
The first look was shown at San Diego Comic-Con Málaga before an audience of more than 3,000 fans. Sony Pictures Television and Sony Music Vision executives joined Atlantis Animation director Dan Creteur to introduce the series’ world, characters and music.
The teaser is also the first opportunity to hear Luck Ra’s theme song alongside the animation. Disney’s announcement concentrates on Leo’s underdog role and the rules of Iko, leaving episode count, running time and a precise launch date to be confirmed later.
What is Messi and the Giants about?
The story follows Leo, a 12-year-old boy who finds himself stranded in an alternate reality. Its fractured realms, known as Iko, are ruled by giants, and the way to challenge them involves high-stakes, football-like contests played with powerful orbs.
Other players in this world have special “code powers”. Leo does not. The series instead puts his football ability, persistence and willingness to work with others at the centre of the adventure. His goal is to defeat the giants and bring the realms back together.
That combination gives the project a different angle from a conventional sports biography. Although Lionel Messi is among its executive producers, the series is a fictional fantasy adventure rather than an animated account of his own career. Football supplies the action and teamwork that drive Leo’s journey.
Argentinian actor Milo Burgess-Webb will voice Leo. The theme song, “Vamos, Vamos, Vamos”, is performed by Argentinian singer Luck Ra. The music and voice casting were among the details unveiled alongside the teaser.
Who is making the series?
Messi and his production partners are working with Sony Pictures Television, Sony Music Vision and Atlantis Animation. The announcement lists Lionel Messi Cuccittini and Jorge Messi Pérez, in memoriam, among the executive producers.
Sony Pictures Television’s executive producers are Kurt Mueller, Bryan Korn, Lacey Stanton and Guy Toubes. Afo Verde is an executive producer for Sony Music Latin Iberia, while Tom Mackay and Sergi Reitg executive-produce for Sony Music Vision. Atlantis Animation is handling the animation, with Dan Creteur directing.
At the Málaga presentation, Stanton and Korn were joined by Creteur and Reitg. Their appearance placed the series’ mythology, character design and music in the spotlight, rather than simply announcing a platform and release year.
