BritBox August 2026 lineup includes Death Valley, The Rumour and Unforgotten — BritBox is turning August into a month of British mystery, crime drama, cozy detective stories and true-crime tension. Several exclusive premieres and returning favourites arrive for Australian subscribers.
First up, Death Valley returns for Season 2. Then the psychological thriller The Rumour brings small-town paranoia to the service. Later in August, Sister Boniface Mysteries returns for Season 4. Finally, Unforgotten Season 6 closes the month beside companion documentary series The Real Unforgotten.
There is also a strong true-crime thread across the schedule. In addition, The Salisbury Poisonings, Litvinenko: The Mayfair Poisoning and Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams add more factual drama and documentary storytelling.
Death Valley Season 2 (August 4)
Death Valley returns to BritBox Australia on August 4 with a six-part second season. The Welsh comedy-crime drama follows retired actor John Chapel and Detective Inspector Janie Mallowan.
This season picks up months after Season 1. Janie has been promoted to Detective Inspector. However, she is busier than ever, and the paperwork keeps piling up.
At the same time, Janie has been avoiding John after an unexpected revelation. Soon, fresh cases force the pair back together. Once again, they must solve mysteries across Mid Wales.
Timothy Spall returns as John Chapel, with Gwyneth Keyworth back as Janie. The cast also includes Alexandria Riley, Rithvik Andugula and Steffan Rhodri.
BritBox describes the series as a cozy mystery with comic bite. Meanwhile, The Guardian called the first season a “cosy, witty joy” and compared it to Midsomer Murders with jokes.
The Salisbury Poisonings (August 6)
The Salisbury Poisonings arrives on August 6. The three-part drama revisits the 2018 Novichok poisoning crisis.
Its focus is not only the crime. Instead, the series looks at Salisbury, local authorities, health workers and the wider community.
As the crisis grows, ordinary people are drawn into an international incident. As a result, BritBox adds another fact-based drama built around a major British news event.
Litvinenko: The Mayfair Poisoning (August 7)
Litvinenko: The Mayfair Poisoning follows on August 7. It adds another chilling real-world story to the August slate.
The title focuses on Alexander Litvinenko and the investigation that followed his poisoning. Together with The Salisbury Poisonings, it gives BritBox a stark mid-month run of political and criminal stories.
The Rumour (August 13)
The Rumour premieres exclusively on BritBox on August 13. Based on the novel by Lesley Kara, the five-part thriller follows Joanna, played by Rachel Shenton.
Joanna moves to a small town with her son Alfie. She wants a quieter life. Instead, she hears a rumour that a child killer may be hiding in plain sight.
When Joanna repeats the rumour to connect with local mothers, suspicion spreads through town. What starts as a whisper soon becomes a damaging wave of paranoia.
As fear grows, neighbours start to look like suspects. The series asks how quickly a community can turn when truth and gossip blur.
Rachel Shenton stars alongside Joanne Whalley, Emily Atack, Liza Sadovy and Carryl Thomas.
Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams Season 3 (August 14)
Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams returns for Season 3 on August 14. The factual series follows the former cricketer as he uses sport to open doors for young people.
Across the series, Flintoff builds confidence beyond the pitch. Therefore, its August return gives the schedule a warmer counterpoint to the month’s heavier crime dramas.
Sister Boniface Mysteries Season 4 (August 26)
Sister Boniface Mysteries returns for Season 4 on August 26. The new season features eight episodes of the 1960s-set cozy mystery drama.
Lorna Watson is back as Sister Boniface. She is the Vespa-riding Catholic nun with an IQ of 156, forensic skill and a regular role with the local police.
This time, Sister Boniface and the team face another run of eccentric cases. BritBox teases killer scarecrows, a fatal game show and a deadly town-wide women’s strike.
So, the Father Brown spin-off stays firmly in playful cozy-crime territory. The cast includes Lorna Watson, Jerry Iwu, Max Brown and Ami Metcalf.
Unforgotten Season 6 (August 27)
Unforgotten Season 6 arrives on BritBox on August 27. The BAFTA-nominated crime drama again follows a London cold-case team.
This season begins when dismembered human remains are dredged up from Whitney Marsh. DCI Jess James, played by Sinead Keenan, works the case with DI Sunny Khan, played by Sanjeev Bhaskar.
Together, they piece together the victim’s final years. Soon, the investigation draws in strangers who share a hidden link to his death.
Also, Jordan Long, Carolina Main, Hiten Patel and Pippa Nixon feature in the cast.
The Real Unforgotten (August 28)
The Real Unforgotten arrives on August 28. The documentary series gives fans of the drama a companion factual title.
It also rounds out a strong final week for crime viewers on BritBox. For cold-case fans, the pairing should be a natural end to the month.
