Apple TV renews breakout hit Widow’s Bay for Season 2 ahead of finale – Apple TV is heading back to Widow’s Bay, with the streamer officially renewing its acclaimed genre-bending series for a second season ahead of the highly anticipated Season One finale.
The renewal announcement arrives just days before the finale premieres on Wednesday, 17 June on Apple TV, with the streaming service also confirming a new multi-year overall deal with series creator, showrunner and executive producer Katie Dippold.
A return trip to Widow’s Bay
Led by Emmy Award-winning actor Matthew Rhys, who also serves as an executive producer, Widow’s Bay has emerged as one of Apple TV’s surprise success stories of the year.
Blending horror, mystery and offbeat comedy, the series centres on Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys), who is determined to revive his struggling island community by transforming it into a thriving tourist destination.
Unfortunately for Loftis, the superstitious locals may have been right all along.
After decades of relative calm, the island’s long-whispered curses and eerie legends begin to resurface, threatening both the town’s future and its newfound popularity with visitors.
Apple TV backs the breakout series
Apple TV’s Head of Programming, Matt Cherniss, said audiences had embraced the show’s unique blend of genres.
“From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew, and the entire team have created,” Cherniss said.
“It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”
Creator Katie Dippold offered her own tongue-in-cheek tease about what’s to come.
“Season two is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about,” Dippold said.
One of Apple’s most talked-about new dramas
Since premiering, Widow’s Bay has become a critical and audience favourite, earning a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Critics have praised the series as “the year’s best new show”, “one of the brightest surprises on streaming right now” and “unlike anything on TV”.
The show’s distinctive mix of supernatural horror, character-driven comedy and small-town intrigue has helped it stand out in an increasingly crowded television landscape.
An acclaimed cast returns

The supporting cast also features K Callan and Emmy Award-winning actor Jeff Hiller.

Emmy Award-winning director Hiro Murai executive produces through Chum Films and directed five episodes during the first season. Additional episodes were directed by Ti West, Sam Donovan and Andrew DeYoung.
The mystery continues
While details about Season Two remain tightly under wraps, fans won’t have to wait long before returning to the island’s latest mystery.
For now, all eyes turn to the Season One finale, where viewers can expect more cursed secrets, unexpected twists and, if Mayor Loftis is to be believed, absolutely nothing to worry about.
