Trying returns to Apple TV as Season 5 gets July premiere date –
Apple TV has unveiled the first trailer for the fifth season of its acclaimed comedy-drama Trying, with Nikki and Jason facing a new challenge that threatens to disrupt the family life they’ve worked so hard to build.
The eight-episode season premieres on Wednesday, 8 July on Apple TV, with new episodes rolling out weekly through to 26 August.
A new chapter for Nikki and Jason
Season five picks up with Nikki (Esther Smith) and Jason (Rafe Spall) navigating the fallout after Princess and Tyler’s biological mother, Kat, unexpectedly re-enters their lives.
Portrayed by Charlotte Riley, Kat’s arrival brings fresh complications and emotional upheaval for the couple as they attempt to maintain stability for their family.
The new season promises to continue the heartfelt storytelling that has earned Trying a devoted audience since its debut.
Returning cast favourites
Joining Smith and Spall for the latest season are Darren Boyd, Siân Brooke, Celia Imrie, Phil Davis, Gbemisola Ikumelo and Colin Morgan.
The ensemble cast has played a key role in the series’ success, helping establish Trying as one of Apple TV’s most beloved original comedies.

A fresh soundtrack for Season 5
This season’s original music will be overseen by Dublin-born singer-songwriter and producer Orla Gartland.
New original songs from Gartland will debut throughout the season, beginning with her latest single, At The End Of The Day, which features in the newly released trailer.
Gartland follows previous soundtrack contributors Guy Garvey, Maisie Peters, Bear’s Den and BEKA, who each helped define the musical identity of earlier seasons.
