Imperfect Women renewed for season 2 at Apple TV with Kerry Washington returning – Apple TV is bringing its thriller Imperfect Women back for a second season, with Kerry Washington returning as Eleanor. Washington will also executive produce the new chapter, which moves the story to Martha’s Vineyard.
The renewal changes the shape of the series. Its first season was presented as a limited-series adaptation of Araminta Hall’s novel; the next season will tell an original, Eleanor-led story rather than simply revisit the book’s central crime. For Australian viewers, that is the key distinction in an announcement that confirms the series will continue but does not yet provide a premiere date.
What happens in Imperfect Women season 2?
Eleanor returns to her hometown roots in the affluent Black enclave of Martha’s Vineyard. According to Apple TV’s outline, secrets and scandals beneath the area’s idyllic surface threaten to overturn what she thought she knew about her past. The location and Eleanor’s history give the thriller a new centre while retaining a character from the first season.
That original instalment followed a crime that shattered a decades-long friendship between three women. Washington appeared alongside Elisabeth Moss and Kate Mara. Apple TV has confirmed Washington’s on-screen return, but it has not announced a full cast for the new story. Moss is confirmed as an executive producer; the announcement does not say that she will reprise her acting role.
Who is making the new season?
Annie Weisman returns as co-showrunner, joined by Justin Hillian, whose previous credits include The Chi and Snowfall. The pair created the second season’s original story and will executive produce it. Imperfect Women remains a co-production between 20th Television and Apple Studios.
Washington executive produces through Simpson Street alongside Pilar Savone. Moss and Lindsey McManus, who initially optioned Hall’s book, remain executive producers through Love & Squalor Pictures. Hall also retains an executive producer credit. The arrangement keeps the novelist and the original adaptation’s producers involved even as the story moves beyond the first season’s source material.
Washington said she was keen to step back into Eleanor’s shoes, describing the character as intelligent and strong while acknowledging the complicated situations she faces. Apple TV head of programming Matt Cherniss pointed to the first season’s performances and said the new Weisman-Hillian story offered a natural way to expand the series around Eleanor.
When will Australian audiences see it?
Apple TV has not announced a season two release date, filming timetable, additional cast or Australian premiere details. There is also no new trailer in the renewal announcement. The series is an Apple TV original, so the service is the expected Australian viewing destination, but a local date remains to be confirmed.
