Apple TV announces new dating documentary series The Last Person on Earth – Apple TV has announced The Last Person on Earth, a new eight-episode dating documentary series featuring renowned relationship expert Esther Perel.
The series will pair couples who appear to be opposites, before sending them on an adventure in one of the world’s most romantic and remote destinations.
For Apple TV viewers in Australia, the announcement adds another unscripted relationship format to the streamer’s growing documentary slate. It also gives the service a dating series built around Perel’s profile as a therapist, author and commentator on modern relationships.
What is The Last Person on Earth about?
The Last Person on Earth asks whether the person someone believes they would never date could become the person they cannot live without.
Apple says the format arrives at a time when more people are single, and when social isolation and polarisation are shaping how people connect.
In the series, Perel works with a team of matchmakers and therapists to create unexpected pairings. The couples then test those connections in a romantic destination setting.

Perel said the series challenges assumptions about compatibility and invites people to approach dating as an adventure into the unknown.
“Over the course of my career as a couples therapist, one truth has become undeniable: love may crave closeness, but desire is fuelled by otherness,” Perel said.
She added that when people step outside familiar boundaries, passionate love stories can flourish.

The Last Person on Earth comes from Boldprint Studios.
The series is executive produced by Dan Gray, Lou Hutchinson and Phil Harris. Josh Jacobs serves as series director, with Olly Lambert also directing on the series.
