Sydney Marathon to run on Seven – Legendary sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney to lead coverage on 7mate and 7plus.

The Seven Network is thrilled to be the new official Australian broadcast media partner of Australia’s largest marathon, the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS, on Sunday, 31 August.

Seven will deliver exclusive coverage of the iconic event to audiences across Australia live and free on 7mate and 7plus Sport.

Seven’s unmatched experience showcasing some of the world’s biggest sporting moments will amplify the event’s spirit of inclusivity, community and achievement.

Legendary sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney OAM, who will lead the commentary team, said he was looking forward to delivering all the action from Australia’s ultimate distance race.

“Sydney’s elevation to join the likes of Boston, London and New York in the elite group of Abbott World Marathon Majors is an enormous compliment to our Harbour City. It gives Australia the equivalent of a world championship each year, attracting the best globally and inspiring runners at all levels to tackle the ultimate distance,”

– he said.

“For Seven to be involved in the first Sydney Marathon at this level is a great privilege and honour, and it promises to be a magnificent spectacle.”

Seven’s Commercial Director, Sport, Renee Quirk, said:

“We are thrilled to showcase major sporting events such as the TCS Sydney Marathon where everyday Australians can mix it with athletic superstars including marquee runner Eliud Kipchoge. Bruce McAvaney will lead a stellar commentary team on Seven for the event.

“Seven takes immense pride in supporting Australian athletics with recent coverage of the Maurie Plant Meet, Stawell Gift, Australian Athletics Championships, and the upcoming Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.”

The partnership with Seven marks an exciting new chapter for the TCS Sydney Marathon, delivering the excitement, passion and triumph of marathon day to more households than ever before.

TCS Sydney Marathon Race Director, Wayne Larden, said:

“We are thrilled to welcome Seven as our official Australian broadcast media partner to deliver the most compelling and accessible coverage in the event’s history.

“By teaming up with Australia’s most watched and trusted network, we’re not just expanding our reach, we’re showcasing the incredible talent of our elite athletes, the inspiring stories of everyday runners, and the breathtaking beauty of our city to a wider audience than ever before.”
