AUSSIES IN ACTION
Swimming
- Kaylee McKeown has once again won the Women’s 100m Backstroke, defending her Tokyo Gold Medal in Olympic Record time. She becomes just the ninth Australian to win four or more Olympic Gold medals.
- Australia’s Men’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay team have repeated their performance from the Tokyo Games to win the Bronze medal behind Great Britain and the USA.
- Shayna Jack and Mollie O’Callaghan are on track to challenge the podium in the Women’s 100m Freestyle after finishing second and third respectively in the Semi-Finals.
- Kyle Chalmers has powered into tomorrow’s Men’s 100m Freestyle final as the second-fastest qualifier. The 26-year-old is chasing his third-straight medal in the event having claimed Gold in Rio and Silver in Tokyo.
- Tokyo Gold medallist Zac Stubblety-Cook has the opportunity to claim back-to-back Men’s 200m Breaststroke Gold Medals after winning his Semi-Final and qualifying second-fastest for the Final. To do so he will need to overcome fastest-qualifier and local crowd favourite Leon Marchand (FRA).
Rugby Sevens – Women’s
- Australia gave up a 12-point first half lead in a shock loss to Canada in the Semi-Finals, before going down in the final moments of a heart-breaking Bronze medal match to the USA. (vision)
Basketball – Men’s
- The Boomers challenged Canada for most of their Pool A clash before NBA superstar Shae Gilgeous-Alexander inspired his side to a 10-point win. (vision)
Water Polo – Men’s
- The Sharks have caused a major boilover by taking down two-time defending Gold medallists Serbia 8-3. (vision)
BMX Freestyle
- Logan Martin is chasing back-to-back Gold medals after finishing third in qualifying, less than two points behind the front-runner. Natalia Diehm has also made it through for the Women’s Final, hoping to improve on her fifth place finish in Tokyo.
Hockey
- The Kookaburras have split the opening two matches of their Olympic campaign after going down 6-2 to Belgium. They now sit second in Pool B with two matches remaining, with the top four teams proceeding to the Quarter-Finals.
Canoe Slalom
- Jess Fox was second-fastest in the heats of the Women’s C1 as she looks to defend her Tokyo Gold medal in the Semi-Finals and Final on Wednesday night (AEST). Tim Anderson is also through to Thursday’s semis of the Men’s K1 after finishing fifth in the heats.
Tennis
- Alexei Popyrin is into the third round of the Men’s Singles after defeating three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka (SUI) in straight sets. He now meets world number four Alexander Zverev in the Round of 16. (vision)
- Matt Ebden and John Peers defeated their Spanish opponents overnight to move into Wednesday’s Men’s Doubles Quarter-Finals. Ebden is also scheduled to play in the Mixed Doubles Quarter-Finals on Day 5 with Ellen Perez.
INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
Rugby Sevens – Women’s
- New Zealand have won their first medal of Paris 2024 by defending the Women’s Sevens title, backing up their Tokyo title with a 19-12 win over Canada in the Gold medal match.
Artistic Gymnastics
- Simone Biles has led USA to victory in the Women’s Team Final, their third Gold in the event in the last four Games.
Swimming
- Daniel Wiffen has won Ireland’s first-ever Olympic Gold Medal in men’s swimming, taking out the Men’s 800m Freestyle and setting a new Olympic Record along the way.
