Kalyn Ponga signs new deal with Newcastle Knights
CP: Kalyn Ponga has inked a new deal to stay at the Newcastle Knights until 2030. He kept it very hush hush.
DR: Well done to the Newcastle Knights, credit to them. I gotta admit, I am surprised by this… knowing that Fletcher Sharpe is their future.. and he is coming off contract soon. No doubt they are working on Fletcher Sharpe in the background. How they manage it moving forward – Dylan Brown 1 million bucks, Kalyn through to 2030 with a further 2 year option in the club’s favour plus the anticipated resigning of Fletcher Sharpe – something’s gotta give.
LK: I think they’re set. Having Sharpe at 6, Brown at 7 and Ponga at 1. That on paper is a spine that can take you a long long way. I actually love their team. They’ve had a tough fortnight with Bradman Best out… but they’ve got a good team. So good on Ponga.
Craig Bellamy steps down from NSW coach advisory role
DR: Breaking news; Craig Bellamy has decided to step down as Senior Advisor to NSW coach Laurie Daly. This was an advisory role with Laurie. He would help with team selections, team strategy, profiling players and the entire camp set up.
I understand this decision was made a few weeks ago, and I am not saying it is in direct relation to his current plight with the Melbourne Storm, but certainly it is a decision Craig has made, know what is on his plate this year with the Melbourne Storm. It is a significant change for Laurie Daly, who will now solely rely on his coaching staff, Brett White, Matt King and Boyd Cordner.
