The Agenda Setters Rugby League on Channel 7 “It’s definitely not ideal” – Tedesco on Mitch Moses being in doubt for Origin – Tonight on The Agenda Setters: Rugby League Corey Parker (CP), David Riccio (DR), Aaron Woods (AW) and Luke Keary (LK) discuss the biggest topics of Rugby League.
Tedesco speaks from NSW Blues camp on Mitch Moses being in doubt for Origin – “Yeah, it’s definitely not ideal”
JT: He (Moses) trained the whole session, just pulled with up a bit of tightness at the end of the session. So, there’s a bit of caution there. Not sure how he’s going to pull up tomorrow. I think they’re going to have to go for a scan tomorrow morning and they’re calling in Burton as a backup. But, I mean, we’ll just see how he goes. He seems pretty good. He seems like he should be fine, but there’s a bit of caution there to see how it goes.
DR: Surely this is hardly ideal. I’m sure you would admit that, going for scans just 48 hours out from the big one, no doubt Ethan Strange would be considered as the backup. Is that safe to say?
JT: Yeah, it’s definitely not ideal, but I guess I’ve been in many origin camps and there’s always a bit of drama, something that pops up. So, I think the good thing is we’ve had Ethan Strange in camp all week. He’s been preparing. He’s been jumping in and out for the halves or wherever he’s needed to be. And, mate, if he is thrown into that job, he knows what role it needs to play. So, there’s definitely a lot of confidence in him and what he can bring if he is thrown into his debut. And, mate, he’s done all the things right this week at training.
CP: Big news on Mitch Moses. Still yet to be ruled out, going for scans tomorrow. But we’ve all been in this position before. If scans are on tomorrow, he’s out. He’s out. Because if it was a chance of playing for Mitch Moses, you’re going for scans immediately.
DR: It’s being described as hamstring tightness by the New South Wales Blues camp guys, and picked up at their final training session in Gosford on Monday afternoon. And just Mitch just came out of that session, as I said, explaining some tightness in the leg. I find it interesting that they haven’t gone for scans this afternoon, immediately after training. This is a high performance unit, and they would have access to that medical needs that you could go and get the scan done.
Moses injury shakes NSW Origin plans for Cleary. “I actually think it plays into the hands of Nathan Cleary” – Corey Parker
DR:When you had Mitch Moses there, you’ve got a genuine halves leader as well. But now with Ethan Strange, this is a rookie on debut. So Nathan’s role suddenly shifts just ever so slightly as far as being the leader of this football team. Now having to guide the team around the park where he could have lent on Moses to run certain plays.
AW: What are you saying? There’s more pressure on Nathan now. He’s a young 5’8″. He’s more of a runner. He’s not really known for his ball playing.
But I think if it’s going to happen to someone, I’m glad it’s Nathan Cleary. Obviously he does it week in, week out. He’s done it the biggest games. There’s always that knock on him. He hasn’t dominated Origins. But come on, he’s won a couple Origins series. He’s won four competitions in a row. What else does he have to do?
CP: I actually think it plays into the hands of Nathan Cleary a lot more. Because there is that one dominant voice now, that being him. Prior to that, it was obviously Mitch Moses who is a superstar in his own right, as to Nathan. And at times, those calls or overriding calls can get a little bit mixed up. I think this actually plays into Nathan’s hands a little bit more than what it would have. But with his legacy and the narrative that’s been spoken about from New South Wales pundits that have said he needs to own Origin. It’s the one thing he hasn’t done.
