Corey Parker questions Broncos leadership after eighth straight loss on The Agenda Setters – Corey Parker has called for stronger leadership at the Brisbane Broncos after the club’s eighth straight loss, saying the issues run deeper than coach Michael “Madge” Maguire.
Speaking on The Agenda Setters: Rugby League on Channel 7 and 7plus, Parker said he was “astounded” by the situation unfolding at the Broncos.
“I’m astounded. There is an issue going on there that needs to be addressed from hierarchy.”
Parker pushed back on suggestions that Maguire should carry the blame for Brisbane’s poor run. Instead, he questioned why several coaches had been judged in different ways across recent seasons.
He pointed to Anthony Seibold, Kevin Walters and Maguire as examples of coaches who faced different criticisms from the club and its playing group.
“One was too complicated, one was too laid back, and now one’s too hard. So which one is it?”
David Riccio said Parker’s point was fair. However, he also noted that clubs often move on coaches before changing large parts of a roster.
Riccio said it was easier and cheaper to remove one head coach than to move several players. He added that clubs often see that option as less painful for fans.
Aaron Woods then asked Parker whether he believed the issue sat with the players rather than the coach.
Parker again returned to the wider structure at the Broncos. He said the club needed to show clear leadership and explain its direction.
Luke Keary also asked whether the Broncos needed to publicly back Maguire or re-sign him. Parker said the issue was not simply about a new deal.
Instead, Parker said he wanted to see the club’s hierarchy clearly outline where the Broncos stand and what they plan to do next.
He also referenced last year’s success under Maguire and said it was unfair to now frame the coach as the major problem.
Parker said the same board had overseen several coaching eras at the club. Therefore, he argued the Broncos needed to look beyond the coach as the only issue.
