Sensational Stradbroke Season underway on Channel 7 – Queensland Racing Carnival live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport.
The Seven Network’s horse racing coverage will reach sensational heights tomorrow, as Queensland’s Stradbroke Season serves up Doomben Cup Day at Doomben.
Reigning Australian Horse of the Year, Pride Of Jenni, will be contesting the Group 1 $1 million Doomben Cup, alongside Queensland Horse of the Year Antino, promising to deliver a spectacular contest in the prized 2000 metre event. On the same day, Randwick will play host to Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation Raceday live and free from 12.00pm AEST on Seven and 7plus Sport.
Queensland Derby Day at Eagle Farm will take centre stage on Saturday 31 May, featuring the Group 1 $1 million Queensland Derby (2400m), and the Group 1 $1 million Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m). Over 20,000 racegoers packed into Doomben Racecourse to watch the unbeaten Black Caviar win the 2011 edition of the latter – previously known as the BTC Cup.
This year, The Everest and Doomben 10,000 winner, Giga Kick, will bid to etch his name into the history books. Meanwhile, the Lord Mayors Cup Day featuring the Listed Lord Mayors Cup (2000m) will star at Rosehill.
A day which kicked off Winx’s incredible 25 Group 1 race win streak, Seven Oaks Day at Eagle Farm on Saturday, 7 June will provide an abundance of glamour and grit as Australia’s best three-year-old fillies stake out the Group 1 $700,000 Queensland Oaks (2200m). Further south, Randwick will play host to Winter Cup Day and Flemington will present its popular VRC Community Day.
Stradbroke Day at Eagle Farm on Saturday, 14 June brings a spectacular conclusion to Queensland’s Stradbroke Season, headlined by the Group 1 $3 million The Star Stradbroke Handicap (1400m). Recent notable winners to emerge from the Stradbroke include Think About It and star mare Bella Nipotina.
Other key races on the card include the Group 1 $1 million Ladbrokes JJ Atkins (1600m) and Group 2 $1.2 million Q22 (2200m). Caufield and Melbourne Cup victor Without A Fight won the Q22 in 2023, while Knight’s Choice won last year’s edition before snaring the time-honoured Melbourne Cup, making it a terrific form line in the lead up to the majors.
Seven’s coverage will be led by horse racing’s number #1 commentary team including racing royalty Emma Freedman, Jason Richardson, Lizzie Jelfs and Katelyn McDonald.
Seven’s Head of Horse Racing and Cricket, Joel Starcevic, said:
“I’m thrilled to be leading Australia’s best horse racing coverage with a team of talented experts and producers. Seven will bring fans the best of the Queensland’s Stradbroke Season across the next four Saturdays with incredible Group 1 events including the Doomben Cup, Queensland Derby, Seven Oaks, and The Stradbroke, live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport.”
Seven has long been the undisputed leader in racing broadcasting and continues that rich tradition in 2025. In 2024, Seven’s racing coverage reached 10.2 million Australians (across broadcast and BVOD) and was up 51% year-on-year on 7plus Sport.
A long-term agreement to 2027 with Racing Victoria and Racing NSW, which includes key race days in conjunction with Racing Queensland and Racing SA, cements Seven as Australia’s home of racing and means Australians enjoy 52 weeks of elite racing across the country.
