Theo Walcott brings the Premier League trophy to Australia’s sporting capital – Premier League legend Theo Walcott brought one of football’s most coveted prizes to the heart of Australia’s sporting capital today, unveiling the Premier League Trophy at the iconic MCG.
Fresh from witnessing a famous Melbourne Demons victory at the MCG on Sunday, Walcott returned on Monday morning to face the media. He was joined by Demons stars Christian Salem, Changkuoth Jiath, and Bailey Laurie, alongside Stan Sport’s Adam Peacock, for an official press conference that celebrated the intersection of two world-class sporting cultures.

The cross-code stars swapped jerseys before Walcott was put through his paces in a series of AFL drills.
The Premier League legend tested his world-class footwork against the Demons trio, trying his hand with a Sherrin for the first time.
Melbourne serves as the second stop on the Premier League Trophy Tour Down Under. At a packed Hickens Hotel on Sunday morning, Walcott joined local fans to experience what it’s like following the league from Australia, witnessing the passion of supporters who routinely wake up in the middle of the night to watch their clubs.
The morning was made even more special with a memorable 2-0 win for Walcott’s former club, as Arsenal’s victory over Everton saw the Gunners move ten points clear at the top of the table and take a massive step toward securing their first Premier League title in 22 years.
The tour’s commitment to the grassroots level continues on Tuesday night, as Walcott and the Trophy make a surprise visit to a local club for a memorable evening.
Theo Walcott, Premier League legend, said:
“I’ve really enjoyed my experience coming out to Australia. Bringing the Premier League Trophy here has shown that we are a part of one sporting world. It was a pleasure to attend an AFL match yesterday, with a win from Melbourne FC, it’s a reminder that when you’re playing sport, as long as you have fun, you’re going to get the best out of yourself.”
Christian Salem, Melbourne Football Club, said:
“I grew up watching Theo early in the mornings, every weekend, and I have his jersey at home. He was captain of my fantasy team when he scored the hat trick against Newcastle. It’s a childhood dream to be meeting him.”
Later this week, the Premier League Trophy Tour continues on to its final stop in Brisbane. Premier League legend Thomas Sørensen and Stan Sport’s Craig Foster will give Queensland fans their chance to experience the trophy before it departs Australian shores.
