FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 on Optus Sport –It’s day 15 of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ in Australia and New Zealand and the football is coming thick and fast.

On day 14, France and Jamaica made it through Group F as Brazil crashed out, while an injury-time winner saw South Africa beat Italy to join Sweden in the last 16 from Group G.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the 15th day of action, as well as what you missed from the day before.

FROM MATCHDAY 14:

  • Argentina 0 – 2 Sweden
  • South Africa 3 – 2 Italy
  • Panama 3 – 6 France
  • Jamaica 0 – 0 Brazil

WHAT’S ON TODAY:

It’s another crucial day of football on Optus Sport as we enter the final games of the group stage.

Morocco vs Colombia (8pm AEST)

Colombia head into this game knowing that a win or a draw will guarantee them top spot in Group H, but that’s easier said than done.

That’s because Morocco, fresh from their first ever win at a FIFA Women’s World Cup™, know they must go all out to take three points to pip Germany to second place.

Should they win, any slip up from the Germans will see Morocco go through to the knockout rounds but their goal difference is 10 worse off than last year’s Euro 2022 finalists.

Colombia are basically guaranteed safe passage through to the last 16 given their superior goal difference to Morocco, who would have to overturn an eight-goal advantage.

Winning this group will be crucial in avoiding France in the next round.

Korea Republic vs Germany (8pm AEST)

In the other game in Group H, Germany know that they must win to keep their fate in their own hands, with a draw or defeat opening the door for Morocco to slip through it.

The Euro 2022 finalists’ shock injury-time defeat to Colombia in Sydney last week has seen them likely to now finish second in the group and set up a mouth-watering last-16 clash with France.

Alexandra Popp has three goals in two games so far and will be crucial in steering her side’s outcome, having driven a team supposedly in transition all the way to a Euro 2022 final 12 months ago with six goals in five games.

Players to watch

Linda Caicedo (Colombia)

Coming into her third World Cup in a year, Linda Caicedo had already chiselled out a huge amount of buzz for herself and so far she’s lived up to it all.

Two goals in two games – including a goal of the tournament contender against Germany – has her in many people’s team of the tournament so far and expect her to continue that form against Morocco.

Lena Oberdorf (Germany)

After her breakout tournament at the Euros last year, Lena Oberdorf has become one of the best players in her position in the world.

She won a penalty to get Germany back in the match against Colombia and her link up with Alexandra Popp against Korea Republic will be crucial if the Germans are to get through.

Where to watch

Like every game of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, Morocco vs Colombia and Korea Republic vs Germany will all be shown live and on demand on Optus Sport.

Live coverage begins from 7pm (AEST) on Optus Sport with Korea Republic vs Germany on Optus Sport 1, with Morocco vs Colombia playing out simultaneously on Optus Sport 2.
