FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 on Optus Sport – The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ has a new champion with Spain lifting the trophy for the first ever time last night.

This ends an incredible tournament which has drawn so many comparisons to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

  • Social Video views of WWC23 Optus Sport content in Australia are over 75 million.
  • Average viewing time of WWC23 Content by each Optus Sport subscriber is over 21 hours.
  • Page views on WWC23 Content articles are more than 5.5 million in the last five weeks.

With the tournament now complete, the next opportunity to see many of the WWC23 stars is during the Barclays Women’s Super League kicking off on Sunday October 1St exclusive to Optus Sport.

Sam Kerr, Caitlin Foord, Steph Catley, Mary Fowler, Hayley Raso, Alanna Kennedy, Clare Wheeler, Kyah Simon, Mackenzie Arnold, and Emily Geilnik all play in this the world’s leading women’s league competition.

Clive Dickens, Optus VP Television, Content and Product Development, said that the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ had a deserving winner in Spain and the tournament elevated every female sport in Australia, but now it was important women’s football continues to grow.

“Spain had an incredible tournament and are deserving winners. Women’s football has soared to new heights and every team should be proud of their performances, especially Australia as co-host nation.

“The Matildas have all become household names during the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ and now Optus Sport is the only place where their new fans can see so many of them play in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

“So, for fans who want to keep watching Sam Kerr’s long-range strikes, Steph Catley’s powerful defending and Mary Fowler’s dazzling dribbles – only Optus Sport has it.”

Just as important as the results on the pitch have been the memories that fans have created at the stadium during matches. Sharing photos and videos has played an important part.

During last night’s England vs Spain final, over 48,824 customers at Stadium Australia were using the Optus mobile network and Optus 5G customers experienced average mobile download speeds of over 80 Mbps with peak download speeds reaching 784 Mbps.

During the Australia vs England Semi Final on Wednesday, Optus customers at Stadium Australia made over 6,830 mins of voice calls and uploaded 531 GB of data which is equivalent to approximately 132,860 photos and about 53,144 HD short videos of key moments of the match.

Lambo Kanagaratnam, Managing Director of Networks at Optus, said,

“The entire country is incredibly proud of the Matildas, and, at Optus, we are pleased our network’s amazing performance allowed attendees to successfully share thousands of pictures and videos with friends and family.

“As much as the Matildas players and their terrific performances have been the memories of the tournament, we are also incredibly happy with the way Australia’s fastest Optus 5G network supported fans inside the stadium. Thousands of selfies with fans wearing green and gold, videos of the pandemonium when goals were scored and celebrating a win when the final whistle sounds were sent over our network, which makes sharing the excitement of this tournament a real ‘whole of Optus’ effort.”
