FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 on Optus Sport – It’s day 31 of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ in Australia and New Zealand and we’re at the business end of the tournament now.

It’s down to the final two matches in Australia and New Zealand with the second-last night of football, as the Matildas take on Sweden at Brisbane Stadium.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the 31st day of action.

Highlights from Matchday 28:

  • Australia 1 – 3 England

What’s on today

It’s a third and fourth-place playoff! We have a massive game live on Optus Sport with a bronze-medal on the line.

Australia v Sweden (6pm AEST)

The Matildas beat the world No. 3 4-0 in November last year and Tony Gustavsson’s squad will be chasing a similar scoreline to round out their World Cup campaign.

The team have united Australians in their pursuit of a fairytale ending to the home tournament but a 3-1 semi-final loss to England ended that.

However, a happy ending is still on the line and the world. No 10’s are looking to repay the support with a win against Sweden.

Player to watch

Sam Kerr (Australia)

After her impressive goal against the Lionesses in the semi-final wasn’t enough to put the Matildas on the winning side of a 3-1 scoreline, Sam Kerr will be hunting a happy ending.

Third place at a home tournament, on home soil, is on the line against Sweden in Brisbane.

The Chelsea star and her teammates have only had three days to recover from their semi-final defeat compared to their European counterparts’ four.

But Kerr is building her minutes to make sure she is firing at the tail-end of the World Cup after a calf injury kept her from the pitch for the first three games.

Unfortunately, it won’t be the fairytale ending in a final but Australian players have asked for fans to stick with them as they chase bronze.

Where to watch

Like every game of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, Australia v Sweden will be shown live and on-demand on Optus Sport.

Live coverage begins from 5pm (AEST) on Optus Sport 1, before kick-off at 6pm (AEST).
