FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 on Optus Sport – It’s day 27 of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ in Australia and New Zealand and we’re at the business end of the tournament now.

It’s semi-final time in Australia and New Zealand with two massive games over the next two nights, kicking off with Spain vs Sweden before Australia take on England on Wednesday.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the 27th day of action.

FROM MATCHDAY 22:

  • England 2 – 1 Columbia
  • Australia 0 – 0 France

What’s on today

It’s semi-finals time! We have a massive game live on Optus Sport as two must become one by the end of the day.

Spain vs Sweden (6pm AEST)

One of these teams has never been to a FIFA Women’s World Cup™ semi final, while the other has been to five in their history, so it’ll be decided with how Spain handle the big occasion for the first time.

Not to say these Spanish players can’t handle the big occasion, of course. The squad is littered with winners, largely from the all-conquering Barcelona team who has won two of the last three Champions Leagues.

In Alexia Putellas they’ve got the back-to-back Ballon d’Or winner and in Aitana Bonmati they’ve got the favourite to dethrone her.

But they’ll be up against the third best team in the world and the highest-ranked side left in the competition in Sweden, who have already vanquished the pre-tournament favourites USA and the in-tournament favourites Japan in their last two games.

They’ve got the goalscoring centre back Amanda Ilestedt who has four goals so far and is the highest-scoring player remaining in the competition, just a goal behind current Golden Boot leader Hinata Miyazawa.

Player to watch

Jenni Hermoso (Spain)

Amongst all the talk of whether Alexia Putellas is fit enough to start and if she is, why isn’t she, Jenni Hermoso has been at the fulcrum of everything good that has come through the Spanish attack.

After winning her 100th cap earlier in the tournament – scoring twice to boot – she is only two goals off tying Japan’s Hinata Miyazawa for the Golden Boot.

Where to watch

Like every game of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, Spain vs Sweden will be shown live and on demand on Optus Sport.

Live coverage begins from 5pm (AEST) on Optus Sport 1, before kick off at 5pm (AEST).
