Australia’s Robert Whittaker currently sits at number five in the UFC Middleweight rankings and is looking to return to winning ways after being submitted by Khamzat Chimaev.
The former UFC Middleweight champion hopes to make another run to championship contention, currently sitting 2-2 in his last four trips to the Octagon.
De Ridder may be ranked #12 in the UFC Middleweight division, but the former ONE Championship fighter has already made quite the impression during his short time in the UFC.
The Dutch fighter has been on run since debuting in the UFC last November.
De Ridder has submitted Gerald Meerschart and Kevin Holland before knocking out three-time NCAA Division I champion Bo Nickal.
The win over fellow rising star Bo Nickal grabbed the attention of many, and de Ridder must now overcome ‘The Reaper’ to make the leap into the upper echelon of the UFC Middleweight division.
Whittaker has not lost back-to-back fights since 2013 and wants to secure an impressive victory to signal his Octagon ambitions are still alive.
Also on the card, number three ranked UFC Bantamweight Petr Yan challenges Marcus McGhee in the co-main event.
The UFC Night: Whittaker vs de Ridder Prelims are live on ESPN this Sunday July 27 from 2am AEST, with the UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs de Ridder Main Card follows live at 5am AEST.
The Whittaker-de Ridder main event is expected to begin around 7am AEST on Sunday.
