UFC on ESPN – The UFC comes to Sydney on Sunday September 10 and a host of Australian and New Zealand UFC stars headline a bumper UFC 293: Adesanya vs Strickland Prelim card live on ESPN.
The UFC 293: Adesanya vs Strickland Prelims are live from 10am AEST Sunday on ESPN2, with local hopes Carlos Ulberg, Jack Jenkins and Jamie Mullarkey featuring on a four-fight schedule.
New Zealand’s Ulberg leads the charge, in a light heavyweight fight against South Korea’s Da Woon Jung.
Ulberg is riding a four-fight winning run inside the Octagon, having finished his last three UFC fights inside the opening round.
A performance of the night winning knockout of Ihor Potieria in May sent a message to the light-heavyweight division, and the New Zealander will want to emerge victorious at Qudos Bank Arena to continue his climb up the division.
Woon Jung is looking to return to winning ways, having lost on his last trip to the Octagon in February – dropping a unanimous decision to Devin Clark.
The co-feature on the UFC 293 prelims sees Australia’s Jack Jenkins tackle tough featherweight Chepe Mariscal.
Jenkins is another on a phenomenal winning run, currently holding a nine-fight win streak.
The Aussie survived a split decision victory back in June against Jamall Emmers.Â
Knockout is Jenkins’ most common form of victory, and he and Mariscal are both popular with UFC fans, given their all-action styles.
Aussie lightweight Jamie Mullarkey also features in a tough lightweight showdown against John Makdessi.
Mullarkey has stepped straight back into the Octagon, following his defeat to Muhammad Naimov back in June.
Sunday’s opponent Makdessi last appeared over a year ago and will hope to be the spoiler in Australia.Â
The UFC 293: Adesanya vs Strickland Prelims set the stage for the UFC’s return to Australia with New Zealand’s Israel Adesanya defending his UFC Middleweight Championship against Sean Strickland.
Australia’s Tai Tuivasa fights #7 ranked heavyweight Alexander Volkov, with local stars Tyson Pedro and Justin Tafa completing the UFC 293: Adesanya vs Strickland Main Card.
