Sydney to host Australian International Documentary Conference in 2027 – Sydney will host the Australian International Documentary Conference in March 2027, with Screen NSW supporting the event as principal partner.
AIDC 2027 will run from Monday, 8 March to Thursday, 11 March 2027.
For the Australian screen industry, the move is significant. It brings the country’s major documentary and factual conference to New South Wales for the first time in more than 20 years. It also gives AIDC a Sydney base for its 40th anniversary.
Sydney venues
The conference will be hosted across three Sydney venues.
Delegates will gather at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the State Library of NSW and the Botanic Gardens of Sydney.
Together, the venues will create a cultural precinct close to the Sydney CBD.
Documentary and factual focus
AIDC is a major industry event for documentary and factual storytelling in the Southern Hemisphere.
Each year, it brings together global buyers, broadcasters, streamers, distributors, film festivals, funds and screen practitioners.
The 2027 program will cover craft, business and innovation. It will also include networking events, screenings and a marketplace for documentary and factual projects.
In addition, the marketplace will include a central pitching forum, curated pitch meetings and roundtables.
Industry development
AIDC 2027 will include professional development programs for practitioners at different career stages.
Those programs will support emerging, diverse and First Nations practitioners. A national awards program will also recognise Australian documentary and factual work.
Screen NSW Executive Director Kylie Munnich said NSW would be home to the leading documentary and factual industry event in the Southern Hemisphere for its 40th anniversary.
Meanwhile, AIDC CEO and Creative Director Natasha Gadd said the organisation was entering a new chapter in Sydney.
AIDC 2027 is supported by Screen NSW through the NSW Government as principal partner. Screen Australia is presenting partner, while ABC and SBS are major partners.
Early bird registration is now open. The first lineup of guest speakers and industry representatives will be announced in October 2026. The full event program is due in late January 2027.
