Sky News Australia unveils a new name and new state-of-the-art media broadcast headquarters built for the future of news – Sky News Australia will become News24 later this year, as Australia’s first 24-hour news channel marks its 30th anniversary with a new identity that will unlock new opportunities for growth.
The rebrand, announced at the official launch of the network’s new broadcast centre in Sydney, reflects the channel’s evolution from a traditional linear Australian television service to a digital-first platform with a growing international audience.

News24 will continue to feature the distinct offering of live breaking news, sharp analysis and opinion programming that has built the network’s audience over three decades – led by the same experienced on-air team viewers know and trust.
The News24 name embraces the heritage and editorial credentials of the world’s leading journalism company, News Corp, that grew from a small tabloid newspaper in Adelaide to a global media brand.
The logo incorporates News Corp’s global brand identity, featuring a script font drawn from the handwriting of Chairman Emeritus Rupert Murdoch and his father, Sir Keith Murdoch.
By adopting the “News” script, News24 creates a visible connection to a century of journalistic excellence established by Sir Keith and Rupert Murdoch that continues under the leadership of News Corp’s Global Chair Lachlan Murdoch.
The launch completes the network’s integration within News Corp Australia (NCA) following its acquisition of Australian News Channel (ANC) in 2016 and coincides with the opening of a new broadcast centre at News Corp Australia’s Sydney headquarters.
Paul Whittaker, Chief Executive Officer of Sky News Australia said:
“Thirty years ago Sky News Australia revolutionised the way we watched the news – launching the nation’s first 24-hour news channel and setting a new standard for live television reporting.
“As we celebrate the official opening of our new world-class broadcast centre and studios we are evolving again. Today, we announced a new name for the future of our network that embraces the proud heritage and editorial credentials of News Corp.
“While our name is changing, our brand of news isn’t. We will continue to break the stories that matter to Australians, champion open debate and provide space for all sides of every discussion. The launch of News24 unlocks the opportunity to take our news, analysis, and opinion programming to larger audiences in more markets.”
Sky News Australia’s existing portfolio of broadcast channels, streaming products and digital assets will transition to the News24 name later this year.
The network will be available across existing broadcast and streaming platforms including Foxtel, BINGE, regional free-to-air television, FAST channels on connected TVs, podcasts, through Facebook and YouTube and available as an audio stream on DAB+ radio in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
News24 will be available to watch in New Zealand via Sky Television. News24 content will also be available across an expansive digital network including a new website – News24.com.au – and app.
The go-live date of News24 will be announced in the coming months.
New Facility
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and NSW Premier Chris Minns today officially opened News Corp Australia’s new broadcast centre in Sydney, marking 30 years since the launch of Australia’s first 24-hour news channel.
The world-class facility at News Corp Australia’s Surry Hills headquarters creates one of the country’s largest multiplatform journalism and broadcast centres, co-locating Sky News Australia’s operations with News Corp Australia’s publishing brands.
News Corp Australasia Executive Chairman Michael Miller and Sky News Australia Chief Executive Paul Whittaker joined the Prime Minister and NSW Premier for the official launch, alongside business leaders and Sky News presenters including Peter Stefanovic, Laura Jayes, Kieran Gilbert, Andrew Clennell, Ross Greenwood, Chris Kenny, Peta Credlin, Andrew Bolt, Sharri Markson, Paul Murray and Rita Panahi.
During the launch, Paul Whittaker announced that Sky News Australia will become News24 later this year, reflecting the network’s evolution from a traditional linear Australian television channel to a multiplatform news business with a growing international audience.
Sky News Australia Chief Executive Officer Paul Whittaker said:
“Twelve months ago we embarked on the largest transformation project in our 30-year history – to design and build a new broadcast centre and bring our Sydney operations under one roof at News Corp Australia’s headquarters.
“This new facility sets us up to deliver on our next phase of growth, expanding our commitment to Australian journalism while taking our offering to larger audiences in more markets.”
News Corp Australasia Executive Chairman Michael Miller said:
“This studio isn’t simply about broadcasting. It’s about connection, collaboration and the relentless pursuit of stories that inform, challenge and inspire.”
The purpose-built broadcast centre supports more than 1,500 hours of content delivered across broadcast and digital platforms each week.
Constructed and commissioned for broadcast in under a year, the facility features eight studios, six control rooms, expanded edit suites and voiceover booths, an expansive newsroom, and new asset management systems.
The integration into Holt Street marks the network’s third Sydney location, following its inaugural studios in Frenchs Forest in 1996 and the Foxtel broadcast centre from 2006.
Content agencies Medium Rare, Storyation and Visual Domain will join the News Corp Australia multimedia hub in the coming months.
