TV Week Logie Awards | The Greatest Australian TV Shows of the Last 70 Years – On the 16th September 1956, Bruce Gyngell declared “good evening, and welcome to television” to people at home, others watching from outside shop windows and in crowded club halls.
70 years on, and Australian television remains at the heartbeat of Australian life, reflecting who we are, making us laugh and cry, and giving us characters and stories that have shaped our culture, language and collective identity.
The TV WEEK Logie Awards are calling on the nation to determine the Top 70 shows from the last seven decades to celebrate this momentous milestone.
The public can vote from groundbreaking dramas to iconic comedies, beloved soap operas to game-changing reality television. Australian screens have produced some of the world’s finest programming, and now it is the public’s chance to decide which shows deserve to stand above the rest.
TV WEEK Editor Amber Giles said,
“Our Top 70 Australian TV shows of the Last 70 years poll is a once-in-a-generation celebration of the medium that has shaped our national identity. We want to hear from as many die-hard TV fans as possible to help us settle, once and for all, exactly what shows deserve to make the cut, as judged by the ultimate critics: the viewers at home.”
The results of the greatest Australian TV shows of the last 70 years will be celebrated at TV’s night of nights, the TV WEEK Logie Awards, live and exclusive on Seven and 7plus Sunday, 16 August.
Voting is now open and closes Sunday 21 June at 5pm AEST. Fans can also add any shows not shortlisted.
