Magda Szubanski AO to be inducted into the TV Week Logie Awards Hall of Fame – The TV WEEK Logie Awards is thrilled to announce one of Australia’s most celebrated and enduring entertainers, Magda Szubanski AO, is this year’s Hall of Fame inductee. The honour will be presented tomorrow night, Sunday 3 August, at The Star Sydney, and will be live and exclusive on Channel 7 and 7plus.
The TV WEEK Logie Award Hall of Fame recognises outstanding and continued contribution and enrichment to Australian television culture by an individual, a group of individuals, or a program. Magda is the fifth female recipient of the Award since its inception in 1984.
Magda’s contribution to comedy, literature, activism, and Australia’s cultural identity is profound and influential. This induction into the TV WEEK Logie Awards Hall of Fame celebrates not only a remarkable television career but also a lifetime of shaping hearts, headlines, and history, and giving audiences the gift of huge laughs.
With a career spanning nearly four decades, the much-loved Magda Szubanski has helped define Australian comedy, creating some of the country’s most beloved and enduring characters.
She rose to prominence in the late 1980s through boundary-pushing sketch shows including The D-Generation, Fast Forward, Full Frontal and Big Girl’s Blouse before becoming a household name with her unforgettable portrayal of Sharon Strzelecki, a character she created, in the internationally acclaimed series Kath & Kim.
From her self-deprecating netball tragic Sharon to her scene-stealing turns in Babe, Happy Feet, and The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course, Szubanski is a comedic force and cultural icon – not to mention a national treasure. Her work on Kath & Kim not only captivated audiences but also played a pivotal role in shaping modern Australian humour.
With its sharp satire and iconic catchphrases, the series became a touchstone of national identity, and Sharon’s earnest charm remains etched in pop culture memory.
Magda’s influence has had a meaningful impact far beyond the screen. Her bestselling and award-winning memoir Reckoning earned her widespread literary acclaim, and her passionate advocacy for LGBTQIA+ rights, most notably during the Marriage Equality campaign, saw her appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2018. Vogue Australia named her a “Game Changer,” and she continues to be one of the country’s most trusted and recognisable public figures.
Comedian Sam Pang will once again host tomorrow night’s TV WEEK Logie Awards exclusively on Channel 7 and 7plus from 7pm.
The TV WEEK Logie Awards are proudly supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
