VOTE NOW VIA NEWS.COM.AU, FOR YOUR FAVOURITE AUSTRALIAN STARS AND PRODUCTIONS

The AACTA Awards along with the AACTA Audience Choice Awards return in what has been an incredible year for Australian film and television.

The Australian Academy of Cinema Television Arts (AACTA) are pleased to announce the 2022 AACTA Awards presented by Foxtel Group will be held on Wednesday, December 7 at The Hordern, in Sydney’s iconic Entertainment Quarter, home of Fox Studios. The AACTA Awards will honour and celebrate some of the best and most compelling film, television and digital entertainment from the past year.

Screen-lovers across the country can, once again, get involved in this year’s awards by voting for their favourite films, actors, TV shows, sports entertainment and digital creators in the AACTA Audience Choice Awards supported by News Corp, with all voting happening via news.com.au. The results will be presented live during the 2022 AACTA Awards ceremony on Wednesday December 7. For the first time in two years, the public will be able to purchase tickets to attend the Awards ceremony in Sydney, walk the red carpet, and be immersed in the glamour and spectacle at one of the biggest events in Australian entertainment.

AACTA CEO Damian Trewhella said, “The AACTA Audience Choice Awards are a fantastic opportunity for the nation to show their appreciation for the incredible films, TV shows and talent that keep us entertained. This year, we’re excited to introduce two new sports categories, recognising the craft and storytelling of our favourite sports programs and commentary teams. Australian productions are renowned around the nation and across the world and we look forward to celebrating with this year’s publicly voted winners and nominees in Sydney in December.”

Australians across the nation will determine the winners of the AACTA Audience Choice Awards. Last year’s winners included Sooshi Mango for Favourite Digital Creator, Eric Bana for Favourite Actor, LEGO® Masters Australia for Favourite Competition Reality Show, and Wentworth for Favourite Television show.

Voting for the AACTA Audience Choice Awards opens today via news.com.au and will close 11:59pm AEDT Wednesday, October 19, 2022. Voting will run online, with the top five nominees in each category announced in early December ahead of the 2022 AACTA Awards Presented by Foxtel Group.

The 2022 Award categories are:

  • AACTA Audience Choice Award for Best Film
  • AACTA Audience Choice Award for Best TV Series
  • AACTA Audience Choice Award for Best Actor
  • AACTA Audience Choice Award for Best Actress
  • AACTA Audience Choice Award for Best TV Personality
  • AACTA Audience Choice Award for Best Digital Creator
  • AACTA Audience Choice Award for Best Sports Program
  • AACTA Audience Choice Award for Best Sports Commentary Team

The Awards, which incorporates the public voted AACTA Audience Choice Awards, will be broadcast on 10, at 7.30pm, and will be encored on Fox Docos, Saturday, December 10 at 7:30pm. The broadcast will also be available to stream on demand via Foxtel, Binge and AACTA TV.

Amanda Laing, Chief Content and Commercial Officer for the Foxtel Group said, “The Foxtel Group has always been a champion of the Australian entertainment community, so we are thrilled to once again be presenting the AACTA Awards as part of our multi-year sponsorship of this important event. 2022 has been a truly spectacular year for television, with our industry emerging from COVID-driven production slowdowns and a raft of compelling local titles hitting our screens. We are proud to support our industry in celebrating these successes in 2022, and we are especially pleased to be bringing back the AACTA Audience Choice awards, which give Australian fans the opportunity to show their support for their favourite shows, films and on-screen talent.”

Daniel Monaghan, Senior Vice President, Content and Programming at Paramount Australia and New Zealand said, “It’s an honour to be a broadcast partner for the AACTA Awards. And we’re proud to play a pivotal role in showcasing the achievements of our industry to Australian audiences on 10.

“We’re thrilled to share screen industry success stories with the wider community and cement our industry’s place as a major contributor to the economic, social and cultural fabric of our country.”

NSW Minister for Tourism and the Arts Ben Franklin said the AACTA Awards underscores the importance of screen production to the NSW visitor economy.

“Sydney and NSW is home to some of the country’s brightest screen talent and filming locations, so we are delighted to once again be rolling out the red carpet in Sydney for this year’s AACTA Awards.”

“It is fantastic to see the tremendous achievements of those working in front and behind the scenes of our world-class film and television productions honoured for their dedication and innovation to their craft. I look forward to a wonderful night at this year’s AACTA Awards celebrating the ongoing success of our screen industry, which plays a vital role in the NSW visitor economy.”
