Baz Luhrmann’s film, Elvis swept the Technical Craft categories, picking up a nomination across all nine film awards. Mystery Road: Origin earned six nominations across nine television categories.

AACTA today announce the nominees for the 2022 Technical Craft award categories encompassing nineteen awards across Film, TV and Documentary. The nominees include Oscar and BAFTA winning screen practitioners such as, Catherine Martin (The Great Gatsby, Moulin Rouge!), John Seale (The English Patient), Margaret Sixel (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Lesley Vanderwalt (Mad Max: Fury Road). The AACTA Awards will be presented across two in-room ceremonies on Monday December 5 and Wednesday December 7 at The Hordern in Sydney’s iconic Entertainment Quarter, home of Disney Studios.

The AACTA Award ceremonies will celebrate and honour the creatives behind the best films, TV, and digital entertainment from the past year, acknowledging the achievements of Australia’s best productions and brightest screen practitioners.

AACTA CEO, Damian Trewhella said “Our screen practitioners are recognised as among the best in the world and I wish to congratulate all of this year’s nominees. We are very proud to be able to recognise these screen practitioners here in Australia and highlight the strength and importance of their role in our local industry. Celebrating these creatives, and the work they do, is paramount in promoting our industry to the next generation of creatives and helps to fulfil current labour shortages. As pioneers of Technical Craft awards, the AACTA Awards serves to stimulate the growth of this sector, and we look forward to honouring our incredible industry in December.”

Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis swept the Technical Craft categories, picking up a nomination across all nine categories, closely followed by George Miller’s Three Thousand Years of Longing, which earned eight nominations, Leah Purcell’s The Drovers Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson, picked up six nominations, and Thomas M. Wright’s The Stranger was nominated across five awards. Editor, Simon Njoo earned two nominations for his work on The Stranger and River.

The nominees for the Television Technical Craft categories were dominated by three productions; Mystery Road: Origin with six nominations, and Heartbreak High and Love Me each with four nominations. Award winning costume designer, Cappi Ireland (Love Me), returns this year following an incredible three nominations and a win for Best Costume Design for New Gold Mountain at the 2021 AACTA Awards.

After a successful year in 2017, the team behind the award-winning documentary, Mountain return withthe sequel, River which picked up three nominations across four Documentary Technical Craft categories, alongside A Fire Inside, and Facing Monsters.

Brian Walsh, Executive Director of Drama & Senior Content Consultant for the Foxtel Group said: “The craft awards are essential as it is the creative minds and diverse skills of these artists that make the Australian film and television industry so strong. Massive congratulations to all nominated artists and a heartfelt thank you for your endless contribution to our creative industry.”

Wednesday’s ceremony will be broadcast on 10, at 7.30pm, and will be encored on Fox Docos, Saturday, December 10 at 7:30pm. The broadcast will also be available to stream on demand via Foxtel, Binge and AACTA TV.
