UEFA EURO 2024™ on Optus Sport 11 July – England will play a major final on foreign soil for the first time after a dramatic late winner sealed a 2-1 win over Netherlands this morning in the second EURO 2024 semi-final.
With the game appearing to head to extra-time with both sides locked at 1-1, England substitute Ollie Watkins drilled home an unstoppable low effort with seconds remaining on the clock to seal England’s passage to the EURO 2024 final.
Netherlands players were left heartbroken by the late drama, having started the game brightly and took a deserved lead after seven minutes with Xavi Simons thundering in a strike from the edge of the penalty area that left England keeper Jordan Pickford well beaten.
The game opened up from there and England were indebted to VAR intervention as a challenge on Harry Kane resulted in a penalty kick, that Kane himself converted to restore parity.
The second half saw chances for both sides before England manager Gareth Southgate’s late double substitute would turn the game in England’s favour.
The introduction of Cole Palmer and Ollie Watkins would prove decisive with Palmer’s through ball to Watkins finding him in space in the penalty area to take a touch and drill an unstoppable low effort past Netherlands keeper Bart Verbruggen and send England through.
