A Bite To Eat With Alice on ABC and ABC iview S1E1-S1E5 – A Bite To Eat with Alice is a nightly cooking show hosted by Alice Zaslavsky focusing on recipes that are simple, fresh and relatable.
This week Alice is joined by guests SAMMY J, POH LING YEOW, COLIN LANE, PIA MIRANDA and JOSH THOMAS.
EPISODE 1 – Sammy J
Alice whips up some early bird Bircher for ABC breakfast radio host Sammy J before he arrives with his favourite ingredient, the avocado. Alice impresses him with her Avocado and Broad Bean Bessara with Poached Egg and Crispy Pita. Then Alice takes on the lasagne challenge. Sammy doesn’t make lasagne anymore – Alice’s goal is to break the curse and get him cooking it again!
EPISODE 2 – Poh Ling Yeow
Beloved cook Poh Ling Yeow is joining Alice for a bite to eat, and before she arrives Alice prepares a slow-cooked lamb shank and tarragon stew that melts in the mouth. Poh shows Alice how to make a dish that she grew up eating and is her first food memory – glutinous rice balls with pandan and ginger. Poh challenges Alice to bake something up to Poh’s high standards – a delicious matcha lamington cake.
EPISODE 3 – Colin Lane
Alice whips up a cheeky Sweet Potato Dahl for comedian Colin Lane. When Colin arrives, he causes havoc in the kitchen as he hands Alice a bouquet of chillies. Alice introduces him to tempeh as together they whip up a Tempeh Larb with Chilli, Toasted Rice and Herb. And finally, Alice takes on the challenge to educate Colin on the culinary virtues of combining fruit and savoury with her Chicken and Pineapple Yakitori with Chilli Salt.
EPISODE 4 – Pia Miranda
Alice prepares an anchovy snack for actress Pia Miranda. Pia gifts Alice some jarred artichokes, an ode to the stuffed artichokes her Nonna used to make. Together they cook some tasty Charred Marinated Artichokes with Lemon. Alice discovers Pia has an aversion to creamy sauces, she steps up to help Pia move past traumatic memories of a dodgy Past Alfredo by cooking her mouth-watering Mushroom Wet Fry Fettucini.
EPISODE 5 – Josh Thomas
Alice welcomes comedian Josh Thomas with a good ol’ Australian cheese toasty. He arrives with a pile of prawn heads left over from his prawn dinner the night before. Alice shows him how to use them to make a tasty prawn head chilli oil, a condiment that goes with everything. Alice’s challenge is to change Josh’s mind on tofu. Will Alice’s 5 Spice Salt & Pepper Tofu win him over?
