The Wallaroos have gone down fighting to England in the quarter final of the Women’s Rugby World Cup, in wet and wild conditions in Auckland, New Zealand.

The rain was relentless in the first half, challenging the ball handling skills of both sides. England got the first points on the board, scoring through a push over try from a scrum in the eighth minute.

A yellow card to Australian captain Shannon Parry in the back end of the first half gave the world number one England an opportunity to capitalise and that they did, applying pressure to extend their lead to 19-0.

But the Wallaroos weren’t going down without a fight, and on the stroke of half time combined to score a brilliant team try that will undoubtedly go down as one of the tries of the tournament, finished off in the corner by Emily Chancellor. The Wallaroos headed into the half time break trailing 19 -5

With rain easing in the second half, the Wallaroos were eager to stay in touch but England equally looking to demonstrate why they are world number one and hold on to their world record winning streak.

The Australians were gallant in defence, however the class of England allowed them to score 22 unanswered points to take the victory 41-5, winning their 29th game in a row to head into the semi final and ending the Australian’s World Cup campaign

The Women’s Rugby World Cup continues this weekend with every match from the Rugby World Cup being streamed ad-free, live & on demand on Stan Sport.
