PRISM Provokes Industry to Converse About Gen AI – After a short hiatus, Screen Producers Australia (SPA) today announced the return of PRISM, a thought leadership forum for Australia’s screen industry, bringing together industry leaders to discuss how the industry should approach Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI).
Hosted at Disney Studios Australia, Prism will be moderated by Dr Simon Longstaff AO, Executive Director of the Ethics Centre. Simon will guide three open conversations, each addressing how Gen AI will intersect with the screen industry and highlighting the potential opportunities and threats the sector could face.
A range of screen and tech industry leaders will be in attendance, including SPA Council President Tracey Vieira, Chief Content Officer at Hoodlum Entertainment; Professor Angie Abdilla, Australian National University (ANU); Grainne Brunsdon, COO at Screen Australia; Composer Charlie Chen; J.J.Fiasson, co-CEO of Leonardo.ai; Simon Kennedy, President of the Australian Association of Voice Actors (AAVA), and Claire Pullen, Executive Director at the Australian Writers Guild (AWG).
Drawing on the industry’s shared interests, participants will discuss themes such as managing potential disruptions to business and distribution models, the role of human creators and performers in an AI world, and who benefits from these tools.
“We’re pleased to welcome back PRISM for its sixth iteration. The forum is important in bringing a pressing issue to the forefront of minds and acts as a catalyst for conversation,”
– said SPA CEO Matthew Deaner.
“AI is here, and as with all new screen technology, it brings unique challenges for productions and screen professionals. We hope that by facilitating the conversations at PRISM, our esteemed speakers can share their insights and differentiate between fact and fiction regarding AI.
“We want attendees to come away from the event feeling inspired and better equipped to incorporate AI into how their screen businesses operate, understanding we have a long road ahead regarding how AI is properly used and regulated in the Australian screen sector,” said Mr Deaner.
