FIFA Women’s World Cup on Channel 7 – Matildas v Nigeria reaches 4.88 million. Last night’s game dominates total TV viewing.

It wasn’t the result Australia wanted, but the Matildas’ FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ game against Nigeria last night scored big with viewers on Seven and 7plus.

The Matildas’ shock 3-2 loss to Nigeria reached 3.78 million viewers. The Australian team plays Canada on Monday night and needs to win to be certain of making the next round.

Last night’s game attracted an average audience of 1.49 million: a national broadcast audience of 1.35 million viewers on Seven (including 898,000 in the capital cities), plus another 142,000 viewers on 7plus.

It was the #1 broadcast program last night across the capital cities and #1 nationally in 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s. The post-game program was the #2 broadcast program nationally in 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s, and the pre-game program was #3 in 16 to 39s.

The game peaked at 1.75 million viewers and dominated its broadcast timeslot, scoring a 41.6% commercial audience share in total people, 49.9% in 25 to 54s and 56.1% in 16 to 39s.

So far, Seven’s coverage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ has reached 6.68 million broadcast viewers plus another 828,000 on 7plus. Almost 66 million minutes of content has been watched on 7plus to date.

Seven is showing 15 key matches in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ – including the two opening day matches, two Quarterfinals, both Semi-Finals and the Final, plus every Matildas game – from 20 July to 20 August, hosted by 7SPORT anchor Mel McLaughlin and broadcasting icon Bruce McAvaney.

In addition to hosting matches, Mel McLaughlin will present a daily Highlights program, a co-production with the sports content studio I Want It Yesterday Productions, to air 2.00pm (check local listings) each day of the tournament on Channel 7 and 7plus.

Stream replays of all Matildas matches on demand on 7plus, as well as bonus content including athlete interviews and feature stories.
