Postcards on Channel 9 and 9Now (25 August) – Join the Postcards team this week as they experience the best of the Mornington Peninsula as well as some of Melbourne’s best Egyptian and Italian food, at 5.30pm Sunday on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Guest presenter Alice Zaslavsky shows us her favourite farm gates on the Mornington Peninsula (Boonwurrung Country). Starting at Torello Farm, she meets owner and good friend Sophie O’Neil to talk about all things Peninsula-grown, grazed and gathered. From there she heads up the road to the Nordie Cafe in Red Hill. Her last stop takes her a little further along the Peninsula to Hawkes Farm in Boneo, which sits just behind Rosebud. She enjoys their famous hot potato chips with the owner, Richard Hawkes.
Livinia Nixon explores the mystery and magic at the NGV’s latest exhibition, Pharaoh (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country).
After immersing herself in 3,000 years of Egyptian art and culture, she heads to Cairo Nights, a restaurant and bar in Carlton, to sample some authentic Egyptian cuisine.
Shane Dellia uncovers a taste of Europe hidden in the backstreets of Tullamarine (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). Starting at Pasta Al Dente with the owner, Michael Chiodo, he goes through all the delicious Italian pasta the Chiodo family has been making since 2002. Shane settles for a mouthwatering panino from the deli before crossing the road to Alba Cheese to catch up with cousins David and John Bongiorno, who run this family business. After enjoying fresh hot ricotta, he goes next door for an Italian sweet treat at Eiffel Tower Cakes. It is operated by Joseph and Michael Muscatello, who outline the history of the shop since it was established in 1976 by their emigrant parents.
And Madeline Spark finds a top spot to relax and unwind with a romantic stay-cay in Docklands (Boonwurrung and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). Located just two kilometres west of the CBD, Vibe Melbourne Docklands is a newly rebranded hotel that opened earlier this year. With the CBD right on her doorstep, Madeline heads to The Lume for the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibition, guided by General Manager Josh Ogilvie. Then it’s back to the Vibe for cocktails and a meal at the in-house restaurant, Storehouse.
