Two more couples will tie the knot tonight, but first we check in with our newlyweds on their honeymoons.
While sparks are flying for some others are… reading alone in bed.
Lauren has not head a peep from Eliot following his swift exit yesterday.
“It’s been dramatic and shocking in ways I could never had anticipated. I don’t know if this has ever happened in the history of Married At First Sight,” she says.
MAFS EPISODE 3 RECAP: One groom makes a sensational escape during his honeymoon as another’s vows crush his new bride
She’s annoyed by his lack of respect, but on the bright side, she’s remained on the honeymoon to sip cocktails without him.
Thankfully, the other couples have remained, uh, couples. Jamie and Dave are in a hot tub on a giant yacht, Sierah and Billy are skiing down mountains, Awhina and Adrian are doing sexy yoga and Carina and Paul are rubbing each other with oil.
It’s starting to get steamy. Except for in Tasmania.
Katie and Tim‘s honeymoon is getting more uncomfortable by the minute, and they can’t even blame it on the fishbowl bathtub.
WATCH: Tim rejects Katie on their honeymoon yet again after her multiple attempts to connect with him
Over dinner, Tim told Katie his ‘preference’ is a petite, short woman with blonde or brunette hair. It feels rather specific but he assures her she is “not judged, physically”.
To prove it, he lists other traits he prefers: “quieter women, and even funny,” he says.
Still, Katie is still willing to try and hopes he is too.
“What would be your number one thing you want to do today?” he asks her.
“Should we strip off nude and run around the forest?” she jokes.
“You do it and I’ll just put the blinds up,” he responds.
Okay, we cannot take any more of that. Please, let’s meet some more soon-to-be newlyweds!
Rhi and Jeff’s wedding
We are introduced to family-orientated groom Jeff as he makes a phone call to drop his MAFS bombshell on his best friend… his mum.
Cue: awwww.
He lives in a different state to his family, and is looking to build one of his own with a partner.
Rhi, 34, also really wants to be a parent, inspired by her own incredible mum. She doesn’t think she’s ever been in love, and the “lazy daters” she’s come across on apps hardly inspire her.
Coincidentally, Jeff also doesn’t like dating apps.
Basically, these two are a match made in heaven.
They each arrive for the wedding day full of hope for the experiment – and then Jeff turns around, they lock eyes and Rhi immediately stops in her tracks.
Uhhh…
“Hi Rhi,” Jeff says.
“Hey Jeff,” she responds.
How has this never happened in the history of MAFS, but twice this season? The universe is having a laugh.
“Yeah, I know my husband… well,” Rhi says, even greeting the best man by name.
Conveniently, their guests’ gossip also catches us up. Rhi and Jeff dated for about a month previously, and they did great workouts together. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink!
They also did actual workouts too, like running a half-marathon together.
EXCLUSIVE: Carina and Paul reveal exactly how they knew each other before marrying on MAFS
Of course, this derails their entire ceremony. They can’t stop laughing in disbelief and their vows now don’t make sense.
“I make a mean pasta,” Jeff says.
“I know,” Rhi replies.
Of her exes, Rhi says Jeff is a great one to get married too, but they both agree that things are purely platonic at this point.
Now it’s up to the experiment to get them out of the friendzone!
Ashleigh and Jake’s wedding
Jake is “one of the most unique grooms the experiment has ever seen”. This means he wears Garfield PJs and has a strong collection of party shirts.
He’s a teacher and a kid at heart, but is ready to “grow up” and find someone to marry and have his own children with.
Jake has been matched with Ashleigh, a dance teacher who also feels like a big kid and wants her own.
Why yes, they are practically the same person. This is a good thing, as Ashleigh is looking for someone kind, fun and quirky. Basically, her “but in a man”.
On the wedding morning, Jake admits he’s scared of rejection.
Making a good first impression is perhaps why he’s so deeply concerned about the state of his hair.
Does he flatten it down? Is it frizzy? Should he tie it up? But if he ties it up, will it look okay with his suit?
Finally, he turns around to face his bride.
“Oh she’s stunning,” he says…….. to the bridesmaid.
It’s never not funny, is it?
He’s eventually also wowed by his actual wife, as Ash floats down the aisle with a big smile in her face.
They hit it off over their shared values, similar jobs and equally as cheesy vows.
Their goofball energy continues as they walk off together, with Jake first standing on her dress and then her veil getting stuck on a pole. Now we’re stressed! We hope it’s not a rental!
The vibes are high at both of our new couples’ receptions, but not as high as they are on Mount Perisher.
“I saw Billy’s willy last night,” Sierah tells us.
Adrian and Awhina have also taken the next step, and so have Carina and Paul. Twice. Not that it’s a competition or anything.
In Cradle Mountain, Katie and Tim take an awkward walk and their conversation is as cold as the poor, unused bath in their room.
Katie tells Tim she’s open to him asking her any questions to get to know her, which he… does not take onboard.
He tells the camera he’s definitely trying, though!
Awhina and Adrian’s honeymoon is coming to an end… which can only mean one thing: the honeymoon Honesty Box is here to cause chaos.
They’re scared to open it, and considering this pesky little thing’s history, we don’t blame them.
MAFS EPISODE 2 RECAP: One bride’s ‘worst nightmare’ comes to life as groom’s brutal confession is caught on camera
The box asks how important family is to them.
It’s very important, obviously. But Adrian’s still unsure about starting one with someone who already has a child.
”I don’t know if I can love my kids as much as your kid,” he says, and it’s clear he means the exact opposite of the words that actually came out of his mouth.
This upsets Awhina, who says she grew up in a blended family and would never treat her step-family differently.
Adrian keeps repeating that he doesn’t know if he could love all their kids equally, because he’s never been in the situation. He’s not saying he definitely couldn’t… but he’s also not saying he definitely could…
Confused? Yeah, same.
“I don’t feel like my child is an obstacle that needs to be jumped over,” Awhina reacts.
It’s a kick to the guts for Awhina her later tears up about the issue to cameras. Safe to say her walls are back up.
Speaking of walls, in Tasmania, Tim is wishing more than ever for some solid ones around his and Katie’s bathtub. Katie wants to talk about their feelings and if it wasn’t in a glass box, the bath would be a good place to hide.
“I don’t know how I should be feeling,” she tells him.
“You should be feeling however you want to be feeling, really,” he replies.
How bloody revelatory.
He claims he is enjoying getting to know Katie, who he has not asked one question, but his ‘lack of spark’ is still holding him back.
She wonders if that’s just a cop out way for him to avoid saying he’s not attracted to her, which he acts like is an absurd thing to say.
After getting little answers from Tim, Katie takes herself outside for a cry.
Tim “doesn’t want to sit here and say bad things about her”, but he doesn’t think Katie’s version of events – that he’s not attracted to her and is making no effort – is true.
“It’s a bit of betrayal, so that’s made me question why she’s here,” he says.
…….Ummmm, what?
Katie’s rightfully very upset, recounting “rejection after rejection after rejection”.
“This is a disaster,” she sobs.
On Sunday, it’s our final two weddings!
Get ready for the loudest party of the year, and whatever you call the union of a self-described “warrior” and a bride whose already mapped out the financial implications of divorce.
Hoy boy! See you then for another huge week of MAFS.
Married At First Sight continues Sunday at 7pm and Monday through Wednesday at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
