Rhi and Jeff have come out unscathed (are we surprised?) and he’s especially pleased another Dinner Party is on the horizon.
He knows Jacqui had to read Ryan a two-and-a-half page long complaint about his views on masculinity and fragile ego, and he is desperate to see the aftermath.
Yes, gossip king Jeff is BACK.
Speaking of the experiment’s most puzzling pair, all seems well in their apartment. But Ryan has been stewing on her letter.
“I know myself intimately,” he says. “And what she said during that letter, it’s a little bit disturbing that she would use that language, definitely.”
Jacqui thinks they’ve got it all out and moved on but:
Meanwhile, Awhina is preparing to confront Carina over her comments about her twin sister Cleo.
If you need a reminder, Paul had told Carina he once had a fling with Cleo. Carina scathingly replied that she “didn’t think you would go for that caliber,” – so naturally, Paul thought it was a good idea to tell Awhina this during the Partner Swap task.
Why not, eh!

Carina is not proud of her comment and wants to immediately pull Awhina aside to apologise.
As most of the group get on their way, Jamie and Dave are dragging behind.
A producer asks him how he feels about Jamie.
“Oh, look, I don’t hate her guts, I don’t hate Jamie,” he replies.
WHAT. ON EARTH.
NO ONE SAID YOU DID?!Play Video
Dave admits that his feelings for Jamie have come to a standstill
Jamie expresses her disappointment that he didn’t validate her when they last talked and is upset by his unemotional responses.
“That is not the Dave I’ve been married to,” she says, ordering him out of the apartment before bursting into tears.
“Who is that person? He didn’t even care… that’s not the person I know,” she reacts, bawling.
MAFS EP 27 RECAP: Golden couple’s marriage implodes after Partner Swap task and Paul’s honesty letter comes back to bite him
“What the f–k is wrong with him? That’s disgusting, I don’t want to spend anymore time in this experiment with someone like that.
“He’s worst than any of the others as he’s lied to me the whole time and pretended to be someone he’s clearly not.”
Cocktail Hour
To add insult to injury, Jamie is the first to enter. Solo.
The experts are perplexed and very concerned.
Thankfully, Awhina and Adrian and Rhi and Jeff arrive next and provide her with some much needed moral support.
She explains forming a concern that Dave doesn’t like her – and then his complete lack of assurance that he does.
The rest of the group is just as shell-shocked by this as Jamie, as Dave has never spoken up about his before.
As Teejay shares his complete shock, Jamie breaks down again.
“I thought this was someone I was going to build a life with,” she sobs.
She tells producers she doesn’t want to even see him, taking off her ring and letting it hit the ground.Play Video
The group is horrified as they learn Dave has turned cold towards Jamie
Last to arrive is Dave, who does exactly what every single one of us does in an Uber.
“Busy day man?” he asks.
Not as busy as your night is about to get!

The group is practically chomping at the bit to find out what is going on, and Dave’s not offering up too many details.Play Video
The boys question Dave over his sudden change in feelings
“There’s things that she wants and I can’t give it to her,” he says. “I can about her, so it’s like, I don’t hate the girl.”
AGAIN????
WHY DOES HE KEEP SAYING THAT?????
Okay, pull your palms away from your face – it’s dinner time.
Dinner Party
The only audible sound is of everyone filling up their glasses with wine and then taking large, awkward gulps to fill the void.
Carina breaks up the fun to pull Awhina aside and apologise for her comments about Cleo.
Paul follows them but Awhina asks him to leave, declaring they don’t need an audience.
Carina explains that it all came from a place of insecurity, she knows it was rude and she’s sorry, and Awhina swiftly accepts the apology.Play Video

But now Paul’s back and Carina is pissed.
”You threw me under the bus,” she tells him. “Are you going to take accountability for that, Paul?”

Back at the table, Jacqui’s mood is only improving as the rest of the group’s vibes fall flat.
Looking around, she is pleasantly surprised at her and Ryan being one of the strongest couples at the table.
EXCLUSIVE: MAFS bride Beth reveals the real reason she’s never had a boyfriend in unseen audition tape
“I actually think we’re a role model for the other couples whether they know it or not,” she beams.
But Jeff, who as we know loves mess, is watching on. After hearing her two-and-a-half page takedown of Ryan earlier in the week, he’s confused.Play Video
Group left shocked over state of Jacqui and Ryan’s relationship after damning letter
So he asks Ryan about it, and opens a real can of worms.
As Ryan calls out all the things he hated about it, Jacqui declares “the letter worked”.
And with that, Jeff officially vows to give up trying to understand them.
OK, it’s time.
This time Ryan takes on the role of gossip fiend – oops, I mean, concerned friend wanting to help them out – and asks Jamie and Dave what the heck is going on?
Jamie explains the emotionless way he told her his feelings hadn’t progressed.
“There was no remorse, compassion, empathy. You broke me heart and you didn’t care.”
Dave’s detached, checked out demeanor continues and no one can believe how differently he is acting.
“Who have I been sleeping next to this whole experiment, Dave?” Jamie says, getting emotional.Play Video
Jamie confronts Dave for leaving her heartbroken
She can’t believe that they’re months into living together and he didn’t feel like sharing that his feelings weren’t there until she asked him about it.
He claims he’s spoken about it “all the time” at past Commitment Ceremonies, which Jamie, the group, the experts and absolutely all of us watching can confidently say has. not. happened.
As Jamie breaks down at the table, Dave starts to get defensive as Adrian points out that his narrative up until this week does not match where they are now.
“Sorry I’m not perfect, Jesus f–king Christ,” he goes off.
His lack of compassion shocks everyone, and Ryan sums it up in a distinctly Ryan way:
”I’ve never heard this side of Dave before, I feel as if those two could’ve had each other’s backs through a winter storm,” he says.

From flirty banter to fierce feuds
Suddenly, Adrian decides to throw gasoline on this fire:
”What doesn’t make sense to me is you spend two days with Veronica and all of a sudden you realise, ‘oh s–t, I actually don’t know if I have these feelings for Jamie.'”
OH BOY.
Dave denies Veronica is more his type and thinks that’s a snake move from Adrian.Play Video
Adrian suggests Dave has interest in another bride
Eliot points out that Veronica couldn’t stop gushing about Dave, but she says it wasn’t hard to build a stronger connection with someone who “actually looked at my eyeballs when he was talking to me”.
So things haven’t improved between them either, then!
Anyway, there really is only one question that matters right now. Does Dave want his marriage to work?
Of course, he reckons. He knows he’s handled this badly and wants to fix it, but Jamie isn’t that quick to believe him.
“It is your turn to pull your finger out of your arse if you want to be with me,” she tells him, saying she won’t be putting any more effort in until she can trust he means what he says.
He’s got a lot of work to do if he wants to prove that to her, and at the end of the episode a producer asks him, “What is the state of your relationship right now?”
Dave smiles awkwardly, and the music is tense.
“Still married,” he says bluntly, with an odd grin on his face.
For now, anyway.
We’ll have to wait and see if he can say the same following the next Commitment Ceremony.
Tune in 7pm on Sunday to see Dave face a panel of three very confused experts.
