Conti Cup Final on Optus Sport – The first silverware of the women’s football season in England is on the line this weekend with London rivals Chelsea Women and Arsenal Women battling it out in the final of the Conti Cup. The match kicks off at 01:00am on Monday, April 1, live on Optus Sport.
The match will be a repeat of last season’s final, which saw Arsenal run out 3-1 winners. Despite having a number of injuries, Chelsea will go in as favourites this time, as they currently sit top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table and have just advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League. Arsenal will have confidence, too, having defeated Chelsea 4-1 already this season.
Co-host of Optus Sport’s Women’s Football Wrap, Ash Sykes, said on the Optus Sport Football Podcast:
“It’s a bit up in the air which way it’s going to go.
“You never know which Arsenal team you’re going to get. But Chelsea seems to keep pumping it out every week, so I think they have to be the favourites, especially after the result earlier in the month.
“Chelsea just keep pushing on and wouldn’t it be great to see a quadruple in Emma Hayes’ last season?”
The Conti Cup Final is part of a huge double-header of headlining football action this weekend, with reigning Premier League champions Manchester City hosting current league leaders Arsenal. This match kicks off at 02:30am (AEDT) on Monday, April 1, live on Optus Sport.
This pivotal clash sees two of the league’s most entertaining sides come head-to-head, with the outcome potentially going a long way to deciding where the Premier League trophy will end up this season. Although, Liverpool still have a big say in this equation, too, and they face a potentially tricky game at home to Brighton & Hove Albion (kick-off is midnight, on Monday, April 1).
A pivotal weekend of football awaits – you won’t want to miss a moment.
Howard Rees, Head of Optus Sport, said,
“After an incredible international break, which saw the final three teams qualify for the UEFA EURO 2024, we’re gearing up for the final home stretch in domestic competition.
“The Conti Cup Final is the latest addition to our women’s football line-up and with two evenly matched teams battling it out for the trophy, it will be a match worth tuning in for.
“And then there’s Manchester City versus Arsenal in a Premier League top-of-the-table clash – matches between these two sides are always among the season’s best.
“Whether it’s watching live or keeping up through mini matches, you can see it all on Optus Sport.”
