Two years ago, Alicia Bridges was handed the audio of a secretly recorded conversation. On it, a confident-sounding man boasts of his influence with corrupt police and says he can help make problems with the law go away.
His gang has carried wads of cash into court buildings and given stacks of notes to police officers. They’ve shown off the trappings of their trade in illegal cigarettes, diamonds, guns and drugs.
But the recording captures something much worse. A man who works for the gang admits to the senseless killing of a mother of three in Melbourne.
As Alicia Bridges investigates what’s on the tape, and what happened after that recording was made, she finds herself in a world of lies and subterfuge, where few things are as they seem.
The recording leads her deep inside an international controversy, to secrets that some powerful institutions don’t want revealed.
