NBA on ESPN kicks off summer league

NBA on ESPNNBA number one draft pick Victor Wembanyama begins his much-hyped NBA career with the San Antonio Spurs, as the NBA Summer League continues this weekend across ESPN with 12 LIVE games over three days.

The weekend’s NBA Summer League sees a stacked schedule of hoops action, as the future of the NBA hits the court and a number of Australian and New Zealand stars fight for their NBA dreams.

Saturday July 8 will see four NBA Summer League games back-to-back LIVE on ESPN2 and will see the top four 2023 NBA Draft picks hit the court.

Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs debut will steal all the headlines, as the number one pick takes on the Charlotte Hornets LIVE Saturday at 11am AEST on ESPN2.

‘Wemby’ fever has taken over the NBA and the French stars first appearance for the Spurs will have the world watching.

The Spurs-Hornets showdown (LIVE 9am AEST on ESPN2) will see the number one and number two draft picks face off, as Wembanyama debuts for the Spurs and number two pick Brandon Miller takes the court for Charlotte.

Also on Saturday, number three pick Scoot Henderson will line up for Portland, as the Trail Blazers meet the Houston Rockets – the home of Amen Thompson, the fourth pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Saturday’s NBA Summer League feast is a great look at the new era of NBA stars, with Wembanyama himself labelled a ‘generational talent’ by legend LeBron James.

There’s also a host of Australian stars in action across the NBA Summer League.

Sunday July 9 will see another four NBA Summer League game marathon, highlighted by Australian stars.

NBL MVP Xavier Cooks and NBL championship winner Dejan Vasiljevic hit the court for the Washington Wizards. Former NBL player Mojave King will lineup opposite the ex-Sydney Kings pair, as the NBA rookie forms part of the Indiana Pacers Summer League squad.

The Wizards meet the Indiana Pacers LIVE at 10am AEST, on ESPN2.

Also on Sunday, NBL star Kai Sotto (Orlando Magic) and Ousmane Dieng (Oklahoma City Thunder) are expected to see court time in their respective NBA Summer League matches.

Monday July 10 brings a a further four live games from the NBA Summer League, beginning LIVE at 6am AEST.

All in all, ESPN will showcase 12 NBA Summer League matches LIVE from Saturday-Monday, on both ESPN and ESPN2.
