Mark Hunt delivers shock upset over Sonny Bill Williams, turning back time with devastating knockout

Tonight’s highly-anticipated heavyweight clash SBW v Hunt is over in a shock result, with Mark Hunt the emphatic victor, ending Sonny Bill Williams’ unbeaten run.

The two champions arrived at the ICC Sydney Aware Super Theatre tonight to headline the highly anticipated 6-card SBW v Hunt clash. In a surprise upset, former MMA champion Mark Hunt defeated dual rugby international superstar Sonny Bill Williams in the fourth round by TKO. Tonight’s fight marks Sonny Bill Williams‘ first loss as a professional boxer. The highly anticipated co-main event between Tevita Pangai Jnr and Jeremiah Tupai-Ui ended in emphatic fashion, after a bruising heavyweight encounter.

The celebrity line-up of guests in attendance for the clash included former NRL player Willie Mason, television personality Matty J, radio presenter Matt de Groot, director and actor Matt Nable, Married at First Sight‘s Brent Vitiello, star of the hit Stan Original Series Bump, Carlos Sanson Jr, and stars of the Stan Original Series C*A*U*G*H*T, Alexander England, Fayssal Bazzi, Ben O’Toole and Mel Jarnson. Also in attendance was incoming Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo, Australian rally car driver Molly Taylor, Waratahs player Lachlan Swinton, Australian rugby union player Sharni Williams and Stan ambassadors Beau Ryan and Roxy Jacenko. 

Stan Sport once again assembled an all-star line-up of undercards to build anticipation for the main fight. In the first fight of the night, NSW Travis Druce defeated Cole Smith with a 40-36 vote from the judges. Nathan Singh won the second fight with a first-round KO against Robert Late.

The clash between Abdul Abdulrahman and Malakai Marama saw Abdul victorious after the second round. Isaac Meehan beat Kenny Niko in a first-round KOand in the final undercard of the night, Tevita Pangai Jnr defeated Jeremiah Tupai-Ui.
