The stage is set for the biggest prize in baseball as the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies meet in the 2022 Major League Baseball World Series, where every game is live on ESPN.
Game one of the best-of-seven series begins on Saturday October 29 at 10.30am AEDT on ESPN.
Minute Maid Park in Houston is the site for the opening two games of the series, courtesy of the Astros superior regular season record.
Houston saw off the New York Yankees comfortably to sweep the American League Championship series 4-0, to book another World Series berth.
It is Houston’s fourth World Series in the last six years. After winning the World Series in 2017, the Astros most recent trips to the championship showdown have been heartbreakers, going down in game seven to the Washington Nationals in 2019, and losing in six to Atlanta Braves in 2021.
Houston come into this World Series in irresistible form, courtesy of an undefeated run in the post-season.
Philadelphia have won just two World Series in their history, from eight appearances- lifting the championship in 1980 and 2008.
This year’s showdown with Houston is the Phillies first World Series appearance since 2009.
The Phillies also impressed in the National League Championship series, defeating the San Diego Padres 4-1.
Philadelphia have stunned the MLB, rocketing from the sixth seed in the National League to a World Series showdown.
Their run to the World Series is led by Bryce Harper, who has caught fire at the right time of the season. In 11 post-season games, he has five home runs and 11 RBI’s.
The 2022 World Series is a rematch of the 1980 National League Championship series, when the Astros were a National League participant – which the Phillies won 3-2, before going on to claim their first ever World Series crown.
With the first two World Series games in Houston, the Astros will hope to make a fast start, before the series heads to Philadelphia for Games 3-5. Houston will then host games six and seven, if required.
